Title: disc brake conversion
Post by: rockinmama on May 16, 2005, 03:17:05 AM
Hi, I am about to buy my first FE Holden. It has the original grey motor and  drum brakes. I have been told that these brakes a a bit dodgy, so it is better to have disc brakes. Can this be done and any ideas on cost?
regards rockin mama.  :-/

Welcome rockin-mama!  The most popular way to upgrade your brakes is by fitting a HR front crossmember which has disc brakes.  There is an article on this by Ken McLean, I think the site is http://www.fefcholden.org.au/techinfo/tech002.html.
I also believe that Castlemaine Rod Shop can supply a kit to fit disc brakes to your standard front end.   A brake booster on your standard brakes will make them easier to operate.  Cheers, Mike.

Welcome Rockin' Mama.  What Sheriff says is exactly right, and you can find a lengthier discussion about this topic here ($2).
