Title: CRS lowered stubs take which calipers.
Post by: HARKO on May 12, 2005, 10:45:32 AM
I using the CRS dropped stubs with commodore disks (VN) and I trialled the HZ calipers i have but the mounting holes compared to the stubs are around 10mm different ,
I also have twin spot early monaro calipers but they dont fit the width of the vented disk.
Ive got some VN calipers on the shelf which I havent tried but Ive never heard of them fitting before .

Anyone wiser ?

They will actualy be running on P76 disks which are relatively the same rotor position.

Harko , when I ordered my lowered stubs from CRS I was told they would drill them to suit whichever caliper you wanted to run , mine are done to suit VR Commode rotors and calipers , you may need to ask who you bought them from what will fit ?

hi harko, i am using the modified HR stubs (not dropped) from CRS to suit the commodore rotors and callipers. i am under the impression that the calipers from VB through to VP will fit these adaptors.  i am running calipers from a VL-VK and rotors from DBA, with no problems. these rotors are DBA015 and are the same listing for all VB-VP commodores, so your VN calipers should fit. the only drama i found is that the rotors sit in closer to the staub axles reducing the clearance between tyre and upper wishbone.
hope this helps
dean

Sounds like you have axles to suit Commodore calipers, which means you wont be able to run the HZ calipers which are needed for the P76 discs.

Do your axles have drilled and threaded holes on both sides or only one side?
My dropped stub axles are double drilled to suit HR or Torana calipers on one side and HQ to WB on the other side.

OK Im scared now ,They are drilled and tapped on both sides to the same pattern ??? Im headed out to the shed right now to go looking for these calipers .

OK after much umming and arring I am still none the wiser.
I layed in the rain with one hand up under the car and got a rough idea of the 90mm-95mm spread from outside to outside of the bolt holes and that seems closer to the torana caliper (are all torana's twin spot).

The PBR and Girlock alluminium calipers are both around the 85mm spread but with a bad memory I keep thinking the girlock ones are actualy the ccommodore ones i stored a few years back and I cant find any more calipers untill tomorrow.
Commodore calipers are cast arent they ?

The front tyres are 195s with about 10mm clearance to the cut and rolled lip of the guard so that was the plan to move them in the extra 20mm that the P76 disks allows and alls happy.

Looks like your right yet again Ken and my gung ho has slowed me down yet again.

Tomorrow after work I'll bolt on whatever caliper will fit to be sure to be sure, And that should give me a little more direction as much as i dont like it at this point.

Q : Why dont the HQ calipers work with the P76 rotor ,I was under the impression they interchange with commodore . Dumb question untill tomorrow I guess.

Harko , I had similar dramas a couple of years ago , from memory the commodore rotors will fit onto the stubaxle , use the same bearings etc , but are slightly bigger in diameter and the caliper needs to move inboard about 3mm
I was considering machining the rotor down to the same size as the HQ rotor and making some spacers up to fit between the caliper and stub axle but thought better of it and bought some blank rotors and drilled them to suit.

hey harko can u get a copy of street roddig no 176? therve got a article on stub axels and different brake set ups.instead of using a hr stub if u use a hk stub it will drop it about an inch i think. my mate got a set up using ej stubbs and running vn disks with vn callipers from v6 conversions at moree(dont know how much) maybe you could use that  conversion on your drop spindles?  ???           see ya
