Post by: Phantom on May 06, 2005, 08:36:51 AM
G'day all
Is there a 4 speed gear box that will bolt straight up to a 186 and wont interfere with a bech seat?
                                    Cheers Rusty

Hey Rusty
Have just  emailed you the info of what you need.

Info for all others ,   there is a remote gear linkage that bolts to an "Aussie 4 sp" box that was made for HQ/HJ/HZ etc.  with a bench seat .  this has the gearlever  mounted further forward , allowing it to miss the seat.

Just updating for those interested

Rusty
If you need a drawing let me know. As another forum user ( sorry cant remember who) designed a bracket and I have redone there drawing on auto cad with all the measurements and I have also made one of these and it worked out OK.

Cheers

G'day all.
I have chased up an aussie four speed box, but it has come off a 253 V8, will it bolt onto my original bell housing or will i need another bell housing, and are there any more problems that i need to know ?
                                  Cheers Rusty

Hi Phantom,
A V8 aussie 4 speed will not bolt straight up to a 186 you will have to get the correct  input shaft out of a 6 cylinder Aussie box. What bellhousing do you have?

I may be stating the bleeding obvious, but make sure you use the 6 cylinder shaft from another Aussie 4 speed and not from a 3 speed box. I think I recall seeing someone do this about 20 years ago. The shaft seemed to fit but the tooth(teeth?) count was different...

... no need to explain what happened when the clutch was first let out..

hi rusty
before you pay out good money for a 4 speed you will also have to take into consideration that if you buy a 4 speed out of a wb it will have a cable clutch setup!! this might be a headache later on down the track, the hq 4 speed will have a rat trap clutch setup!!the setup of a non fc clutch, non hydraulic clutch for someone who hasnt done it before can be a nightmare, also take into consideration that your fc cross member will also be of no use,or will need to be drastically modified!!therefore fitting of a 4 speed gearbox to a fe-fc is not as straight forward as it sounds!!the best way to do it is to find someone who is wrecking one or has the complete conversion that they can sell you, this will give you something to consider before you attempt this conversion!!! ;) ;) ;) cheers jamie

I have a Aussie 4 speed from a 6 cylinder engine complete with bellhousing.  Also have a hydraulic conversion kit (CRS) for HQ to HZ that has all the brackets, lines etc as well as hydraulic master and slave cylinders that go with the kit.
Send me a pm if interested
