Title: FUEL TANK!!! Post by: Flamin.J on May 05, 2005, 11:13:24 AM Hi There.
I have just pulled out my fuel tank from my FE Sedan. The filling nozzle tube? pipe? sits out from the body of the car by a bit over an inch, but sits correctly in the standard factory hole in the boot. Can anyone offer any info into whether it is a tank from a different model? Cheers Flamin. J Title: Re: FUEL TANK!!! Post by: Burnsy on May 05, 2005, 11:28:58 AM The filler neck should sit proud of the body by about the inch or so as you are saying with a rubber seal around it against the body. It is unlikely to be from another model as the only other tanks that will fit have side mounted fillers (utes and wagons).
My guess is you have the right tank. I suggest keeping an eye out on ebay for an original workshop manual, they come up regularly, they are invaluable in my opinion. Till you get one I would suggest doing what I did and going to your state library and photocopying the pages you need out of theirs. You will find there are heaps of good photos that I find answer heaps of questions I have about how something should look or fit. Cheers, Burnsy Title: Re: FUEL TANK!!! An FB/EK sedan fuel tank will fit but the filer tube will stick our to far and would have to be shortend which is quite an easy job. Remove the collar and cut the tube to size and press the collar back on. It sound like you have the correct fuel tank it should sick out about an inch. Cheers Tony G Title: Re: FUEL TANK!!! Just to add to the other fella's comments. If you do cut the neck, use a hacksaw, or if you plan on using a grinder, fill the tank with water to displace all of the fumes. Or, you will truly live up to your name of "Flamin' J" :o A mate of mine down here did it on a tank that had been out of a car for a year or so & thought it would be safe (I wasn't there to tell him ootherwise). First spark.....BOOOOOOOOOM!! Didn't hurt him, but he crapped his pants & couldn't hear for a couple of days! Rob J Title: Re: FUEL TANK!!! Hmmm... Thank you especially, 4hammers, for the tip on the water and hack saw tips - crispy with soiled undies (inside or outside) is not a good look! Flamin. - not charred.... J. |
