Title: Timing Gear Part Number Post by: Burnsy on April 30, 2005, 11:14:51 AM Can anybody tell me what the part number for a grey motor timing gear is? I have a NOS gear in a box, the original NASCO Holden box is labelled 7414360 but the gear is stamped 7414429, just wondering why the difference ???, it is a fibre gear.

My Holden parts catalogue lists the timing gear as part no. 7401136. So I looked in my Rare Spares catalogue and found: Gear Timing Camshaft Grey Motor Fibre type: Part no. 7414360. So it seems you've got the right box, but the wrong gear. But don't take my word for it - check it out with Rares. It definitely has 48 teeth the same as the ones pictured in my workshop manual and I counted the teeth on an alloy red motor gear and it had 46. Changing the number of teeth would change the timing drastically if I am correct in my thinking.
Is it possible that Holden changed the part number at some time. It also has B.13 24 1 67 stamped into it (the other numbers are part of the molding), I am guessing that these might relate to manufacture date - 1967??? Anyone got a fibre red motor gear that they could count the teeth on for reference? The number was replaced by 7414360 and thats why the box has that number The one I have taken off my engine has the number 7401137 stamped on it and this is also an old number replaced by 7414360 hope this helps...if not give me a call Cheers Gary Title: Re: Timing Gear Part Number Post by: Burnsy on May 02, 2005, 02:13:22 AM Thanks Gary, I thought that might be the case, just wanted to clear it up before I stuck it on ebay and figured that the details may help someone else in the future ;).
Does anybody know the answer to the number of teeth query though, it is an easy way to tell the difference if in fact all grey gears have 48 (remember 48 the first grey ;D) and reds have 46 teeth? If anyone wants it PM me with an offer before I list it.
