Title: Carb linkage rods to cable conversion
Post by: Dave_EH on March 30, 2005, 09:10:13 AM
Hi guys,

I'm looking to change from a stock stromberg and rod linkage to a cable type set up with a Holly in the interim while I have my twins restored over the next few months.

Does anyone know an easy way to do this on early holdens (EH in my scenario... hopefully FC too one day ;))?

Can the original accelerator pedal be used at all (and swivel from the floor) or does a bracket needed to be welded to the firewall to take a spring type pedal?

As far as I can see once you have a cable (the Holly already has a bracket housing) its just the pedal end that is the problem.

IS there a kit available... I'm sure this conversion has been going on for 40 years or more!

Or is there a little Jap 4 cyl car out there with a perfect pedal set up that goes in with minimal fuss?

Ideas Please ???

Regards
Dave

The last one I did used a Torana pedal welded in with some modificaton to where the cable connects so as to clear the firewall.  From memory the Torana cable was a tad too short and I had to pilfer one off of something else, may have been HQ.

I am considering whether it is possible to maintain the pedal and linkages on my current car and set up a short cable that runs from the top linkages on the drivers side over to the carbies?  This would do away with the "bent pipe linkage" that runs across the firewall and give a little more flexability when it comes to carby swaps - and ultimately the Olbis ;)

Would be interested to know if anyone else has done or seen this done?

I have a HZ type in my Fe ute, using original hz cable, just need a bracket at the carby end to support the cable.

Dave
I used a HJ pedal and cable set up works just fine.

Thanks guys,

It seems an HJ pedal and V8 cable seems the go.

American Auto Parts sell a cable conversion, with or without the pedal

Thanks Effie,

A kit sounds good for someone like myself who is still learning and will probably pay too much for an HJ pedal and cable.

I'll price one tomorrow and see how it compares.

Cheers
