It's a picture of The Southern Aurora train arrives at Spencer St Station, Melbourne on 14-4-1962. Plenty of onlookers trying to catch a glimpse... I originally thought it may have been a Standard wagon, but on closer examination, I reckon it could be a Panel Van..... what do you reckon...? The two diesel electric locomotives are General Motors units, built circa 1957-1960, so you could call them the FE & FC of the Victorian locomotive world.
I'd have to agree with FE_UTE that the car is a FE Van. There is an FE Special Sedan & a FC Special Sedan along with two FE/FC Utes. I can't see the chassis number, but I can tell you it was assembled at the Melbourne factory. :o

FE and FC vans and utes assembled at Melbourne and Perth had the external mirror factory fitted, due to local regulations. The guard-mounted job is the cheapest of the wing-mirrors (by about 2 shillings), so that's the one Holden used to meet this requirement. You almost never see that mirror elsewhere, as it is a right mongrel to fit, and not even as effective as the door-mounted job. All the Nasco mirrors can be seen in the Trim and Style Accessories ($2) section of Tech Info. cheers RET |
