It will run X2 Headers and 2&1/4 inch pipe under the diff. The exhaust shop didn't give me a choice really - they just said they would use a "redback" slightly offset muffler. I'd like a strait- though muffler type if possible. Does anyone know what is legal and what gives a nice low down throb... I'm trying to stay as far away from that annoying 4 cyl throaty sound as possible. Regards Dave Title: Re: Muffler choice? My opinion is based on running various mufflers from Straight through Hotdogs to Slight Offsets ( as mentioned ) and Turbo flow units on cars from Mini Cooper 998cc to a 5L V8 Commodore.
In my opinion " GO THE SLIGHT OFFSET MUFFLER " as you had mentioned ! I had one of these on my V8, and I have never heard a car like it, and never been so happy. The problem with Straight through or hotdog mufflers, is that they take out all and any back pressure that mufflers create. Sure, the better the engine breathes, the better and more performance you'll get, but only to a point. You run a car with no backpressure, chances are it could run like a hairy dog, apart from sounding like a diggerie doo ! If you go the slight offset muffler, it will still provide enough backpressure, without sacrificing power, and creates a great sound. I am actually going to fit one to my XU1 powered FC with a set of Pacemaker Headers. But like I say...just my personal opinion. Good luck Mark Title: Re: Muffler choice? Post by: smithy on March 11, 2005, 02:58:44 AM i have a slight offset on my six with at the moment a three inch system, yeah its a bit of overkill but there is a supercharger in the wings with my name all over it, but until then it will be restricted to a certain amount. mind you it dioes sound throaty ;D the offset is certainly the prefered option smoother, deeper sound, not as raspy as the hotdog, keeps the RTA inspectors happy. this was also advised from several exhaust places, the other advice was for a 2 1/2 turbo muffler.
Title: Re: Muffler choice? Post by: NO NAME on March 15, 2005, 02:44:22 PM I have a 2 1/2" pipe going to a y section at the diff splitting into 2 x 2" pipes, heaps of people reckon it sounds like a v8, there is only a muffler and no resonator.
