Title: Fuel Pump Post by: Martin on February 12, 2005, 06:39:42 AM Can somebody please confirm for me that the fuel pump from the early red (149/179) is OK for the Grey.
With electric wipers I don't need the vacuum pump any more, and mine leaks oil anyway. Anybody got one for sale? Thanks for your advice. Martin Title: Re: Fuel Pump Post by: TorqueFC on February 12, 2005, 06:45:57 AM yeh
we got about 6 of em reconditioned Title: Re: Fuel Pump Post by: mickusmickus on February 12, 2005, 09:26:11 AM Guys,
I ran my grey before it died on an electric fuel pump. Just deleted the old fuel pump all togther and plated off the opening for it. The elec fuel pump worked like a dream, 45 year old original motor never reconditioned in any way started first go every time. Regards Mikus PS: The fuel pump is one out of a commadore Title: Re: Fuel Pump Post by: Burnsy on February 12, 2005, 10:58:15 AM I have one here (WA), the only markings on it are AC, I would hesitate to guess that it would require a kit. No idea what they are worth but send me a PM with an offer if you are interested.
Cheers, Burnsy Title: Re: Fuel Pump Post by: zulu on February 12, 2005, 11:02:37 AM G'day Mikus, What model Commodore fuel pump did you use? was it in the tank or external?? & where did you mount it if it was external?

I run a red motor fuel pump on my grey, no problems at all. Mine would most likely be off a 186. Colin Title: Re: Fuel Pump Post by: Martin on February 12, 2005, 11:27:03 AM Thanks fellas.
I'll follow up with PMs. Title: Re: Fuel Pump Post by: Dave_EH on February 14, 2005, 12:14:59 PM Martin,
Just to add to what has been discussed (and something you probably know), red motor pumps can still be bought new. I've seen them advertised in "Just Parts". They aren't very expensive, I think they were only $60 or so... I can't remember for sure but I remember thinking the price was very cheap. Dave Title: Re: Fuel Pump Post by: Martin on February 14, 2005, 01:26:49 PM Thanks, Dave
Interesting, that price. Motor Traders here in SA told me about $110- for a new pump - that's one with a glass bowl. I understand you can get a totally sealed one with no bowl - maybe that's the $60- shot. Martin Title: Re: Fuel Pump Post by: Martin on February 17, 2005, 04:52:53 AM I got one off an HD at U-Pull-It for $16.50, and a non-genuine kit for $15.00, so my problem's solved pretty economically.
Martin Title: Re: Fuel Pump Post by: Dave_EH on February 17, 2005, 08:32:29 AM sounds good. I tried to find an old "Just Parts", but it seems I must have thrown them away.

I believe it was a late model commadore pump and it was not inm the fuel tank it was an external one. I mounted it on the drivers side guard and ran it through a relay to stop it continuing to pump if the motor cuts out. Ill try and post a pic of it asap.
