Title: FUEL PRESSURE ???
Post by: Blown_FC on January 22, 2005, 12:31:02 AM
Just bought a Holley Mechanical Fuel Pump ( SB CHEV ) to suit my Holden 6.......but I'm now being told, that because I'm running Tripple Stromberg CD 150's, that I need to reduce the feul pressure to 3-4 PSI and the Holley pumps at 7.5 psi.

Can anyone verify what the XU1's ran as fuel pressure goes.   Will the Holley's 7.5 be too much, or do I now have to by a fuel regulator to restrict it to 3 - 4 psi.

Any help much appreciated

Mark

Mark,

From memory 3-4 psi is correct - we used to add a few extra gaskets underneath the mechanical fuel pump. This reduced the movement of the arm that goes against the cam, which in turn reduced the stroke of the fuel pump itself giving less fuel pressure. Not exactly sure what XU1's used - maybe a slightly different fuel pump? Try one oif the XU1 clubs they should be able to help.

You used to be able to buy inline fuel regulators - lots of guys with triples ran these as well.

Cheers,

Craig.

there is a bloke called Dangerous there who has an LC XU1 that he has thrown around Mallala a few times. I have his email details at home if he doesn't respond to the post. Pres of the Holden Torana Club and generally a knowledgable guy.

Thanks Stinky, but I don;t really want to be signing up for yet another site I'll never use.....so is there any chance you can ask him the question on my behalf.

I tried to send him a PM, but you have to be a member, and I'm happy enough with this site without signing into another for one question.

Cheers

Mark

Mark, I have sent an email to him, but I only have his work email. Hopefully you will hear something on Monday.

Thanks Stinky....much appreciated.

I had a look at my original Holden Glass bowl pump, and it has 8-13 stamped into the rim.....would that mean 8-13 psi ?

I also had a look at the Holley pump I bought...and yep...the SB CHEV pump does fit, although it fits upside down to all the pics of it.  Look on the Holley website or on the holley box it comes in, and the pump is pictured witht the bowl hanging down with the arm section up top.....but the holden pumps have the bowl up top, and the arm section coming out from underneath......freaky ?

Maybe that's how they are mounted on a SB CHev motor ?

Either way, I looked at the pump arm, and although a different shape, it seems to be the right length and the right angle.

At $117 delivererd to my door in WA, I thought that was a pretty good deal.  Cheaper than any electric pump, and better looking than any generic holden mechanical pump.
