Title: Re: Boot Badge Overlay Post by: ACE on November 30, 2005, 07:33:58 AM Hi Les,
Will you be making FC Grill Badge inserts? Regards ACE 8) Title: Re: Boot Badge Overlay Post by: graham_fuller on November 30, 2005, 09:26:50 PM Need to be a little careful as last time rares made them the paint fell out. They aren't mentioned on their site either.
Cheers, Graham Title: Re: Boot Badge Overlay Post by: les on November 30, 2005, 11:42:22 PM There is no need to worry about the paint falling off as the will be the same quality as the other inserts mentioned. They will be on our website when we approve the first sample. We will look at the grille insert and the horn cap in the future depending on demand.
Title: Re: Boot Badge Overlay Post by: Glenn 'Stinky' Stankevicius on December 01, 2005, 12:22:16 AM Les, you only need to keep an eye on ebay to see how popular and pricey the horn caps are.
I'll be after one if I can't restore the one I have. Title: Re: Boot Badge Overlay Post by: les on December 13, 2005, 09:25:04 AM FC boot badge arrived today I have not seen it but I am told it is very good we will have it approved by and expert on FC's from the FE FC club in Vic
Title: Re: Boot Badge Overlay Post by: TorqueFC on December 13, 2005, 09:33:25 AM hi all
i was told a while back, that when rare spares made a line of boot badges, when they were in the sun for a couple of weeks, they had begun to fade. Title: Re: Boot Badge Overlay Post by: Glenn 'Stinky' Stankevicius on December 13, 2005, 10:19:23 AM A tough crowd you got here, Les ;D
Not wanting to blow sunshine up Rares %rs#, what about all the feel-good stories, like without Rares a lot of people would never have finished their project. I am sure in this day and age of ISO accreditation, Consumer Affairs etc they would be smarter than that. Title: Re: Boot Badge Overlay Post by: les on December 14, 2005, 12:08:47 AM Quote hi all i was told a while back, that when rare spares made a line of boot badges, when they were in the sun for a couple of weeks, they had begun to fade. One batch we made were faulty and we recalled them, this new batch is made the same way as the original type and yes they will eventually fade but after many years the same way an NOS one will fade Title: Re: Boot Badge Overlay Post by: craiga on December 14, 2005, 12:39:48 AM Les,
I purchased one of the originals, and yes, the paint or more specifically the vacumm metalizing came away. Your staff at Bayswater were very helpful, and took the part back for a full refund. As soon as the new ones are done I'll definately be buying one with the confidence that Rares will return it if I'm not happy. I agree with Stinky, congratulations on the job you have done over a long period of time. Some of the stuff (like door rubbers) could be better, but at what level of investment vs. return? Take Rares away and what have we got? NOTHING. Keep up the good work. Cheers, Craig. Title: Re: Boot Badge Overlay Post by: 4hammers on December 14, 2005, 02:53:31 AM Hi guys.
Les, I pretty much echo what Stinky & Craig have said. I have used stuff from Rares Spares before & although a couple of items gave me grief, most of the parts were great. Also, Bob at the Moonah Rares Spares store, is very helpful & always get the stuff to you fast. Looking forward to seeing the end result of the boot badge....even though I don't have a sedan :-/ NOW, what I DO need, is a spot on tailgate badge for the wagon I have. ;D Rob J Title: Re: Boot Badge Overlay Post by: RET on December 14, 2005, 03:48:30 AM Quote hi all i was told a while back, that when rare spares made a line of boot badges, when they were in the sun for a couple of weeks, they had begun to fade. Darcy, I appreciate that you're young, but you really need to think before hitting "Post". What you've written is complete hearsay. Many people here appreciate the fact that Les goes to the trouble of informing us via this forum of developments at RS, and I don't think it serves anyone's interest to suggest publicly that there is something wrong with their quality control, particularly on such an unsubstantiated basis. You could be sued, and so could the administrators of this site, a la that Hot Rod site a few months back. And you're not even the party allegedly dudded. Rares are strong supporters of car clubs, and have looked after the NSW and Vic FE-FC Clubs with sponsorship etc on numerous occasions. Not every item they've ever produced has been perfection, but who can claim that anyway? It's not the problem so much as the resolution of it that makes or breaks a corporate reputation, and CraigA's experience suggests RSA did the right thing. Perhaps whoever believes they've bought one that's faded (and I haven't heard of that problem) should take it up with the good people at RSA themselves, through the normal channels. Say what you like privately, but really, you should think twice before doing it in public. Les, Thanks for your continued support. Like CraigA, I'm looking forward to purchasing one of these in the near future. cheers RET Title: Re: Boot Badge Overlay Post by: Blown_FC on December 14, 2005, 04:12:54 AM Hey Les....is there any pricing or pics or any more info on the latest with the FC Rear Boot Badge inserts ?
Mark Title: Re: Boot Badge Overlay Post by: TorqueFC on December 15, 2005, 02:29:30 AM hello guys.
i was definately not trying to start a shtit fight, i dont exactly understand why you guys made such a drama about that, there was a faulty batch, les admitted that, if the next batch is of good standards, we would not hesitate to buy one for ourselves! Title: Re: Boot Badge Overlay Post by: Motörhead on December 15, 2005, 03:58:05 AM Hmmmm, can't say I've purchased and used a Rares boot badge or indeed any old Holden cosmetic trim and stuff from Rares but I have purchased and used a fair bit of their mechanical-related stuff and I've had no problems as such. I'm with Craig, Stinky, Rob and RET .... the Rares stuff may not be perfect but the majority of their stuff seems to have come pretty darn close or else very good. And besides .... the Rares stuff would most likely be perfect to the untrained eye or the general public, just not to us old Holden enthusiasts.
Rare Spares have always been there for the enthusiast and have always been there to sponsor and support the classic car movement. We'd really be wanting without Rares. Just my two-bobs worth for the day ...... Pete (P.S - Having my club's discount card with Rares has always come in handy!!!) ;D Title: Re: Boot Badge Overlay Post by: mcl1959 on December 15, 2005, 09:48:59 AM Here are some photos of the NEW prototype badge.
You can see that it is quite dark in the shade but reflects magnificently in the sun. The question is; is it too dark in colour? Would it be better to be a bit darker when new so that when & if it fades a bit, it will still have good colour. Pictures don't clearly show detail but I can assure you that badge clarity is A1, detail is A1, metallising is A1 and colour coverage is A1. Feedback would be appreciated and Les will take note as buyer perception is important and since this is at prototype stage only it can be changed if needed. we would be up for one! Regards Darcy Title: Re: Boot Badge Overlay Post by: TorqueFC on December 15, 2005, 10:02:25 AM i cant seem to modify my previous post, but the color in the sun looks excelent!!
Title: Re: Boot Badge Overlay Post by: leon on December 15, 2005, 10:16:49 AM :)Hey they look just fine to me and when they are ready you can put me down for at least 3 of them.
Regards. Leon ;) Title: Re: Boot Badge Overlay Post by: Spinner on December 15, 2005, 10:26:29 AM Colour on the pc appears fine. It might be a tad dark, but it is hard to tell without a NOS example to directly compare it with.
Let us say that it looks good enough that I need to see if a bank will swap the moths in my wallet for Australian Legal Tender. ;) Brett Title: Re: Boot Badge Overlay Post by: craiga on December 15, 2005, 10:51:35 AM Ill definately take one, especially now it gots Darcy's approval ;-)
It does look a lot darker than the last repro one I got, but looks absolutely BEAUTIFUL. Bring on the horn buttons!! Cheers, Craig. Title: Re: Boot Badge Overlay Post by: graham_fuller on December 15, 2005, 10:58:00 AM I agree the colour may be a bit dark but as you say Ken they will fade, detail looks good also. What is the program for the horn button? Also any word on prices?
Cheers, Graham Title: Re: Boot Badge Overlay Post by: 4hammers on December 15, 2005, 11:01:18 AM Looks great. ;D
In my opinion, if you are getting a reproduction anyway, you shouldn't be too fussed if it is a shade or 2 out, especially if it gives a bit more room for the fade. Red will ALWAYS fade. Rob J Title: Re: Boot Badge Overlay Post by: tim59fc on December 15, 2005, 11:29:57 AM Looks fantastic Les :o
No doubt the red will fade (and the silver may even go gold ....), but the detail is excellent. Bring it on. Tim PS nice manicure there Ken Title: Re: Boot Badge Overlay Post by: customFC on December 15, 2005, 12:46:55 PM Looking good.
Looks like the colour is pretty spot on. My formerly NOS badge (it's been on the car for a couple of years now) looks dark in the shade also. Depending on price, I would put 1 on the shopping list to put into the sock drawer for use down the track. Here's a couple of different shots showing the changes in colour. (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v383/SRVLIVES/IMGP1138.jpg) (http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y90/customfc3/FEFC NatsSat/10Nats127.jpg) Hope this helps. Regards Alex Title: Re: Boot Badge Overlay Post by: Motörhead on December 15, 2005, 04:07:58 PM Ken,
Those boot badge pics absolutely ROCK looks-wise, repro or not!!! :) Personally I think the badge looks magnificent in that dark-red shade and as it fades over time .... even better. I'd give it the thumbs-up the way it is. Les, Any chance of a similar red color and detail for the Rares bonnet badge for an EJ?? ;D :P :P Cheers ...... Pete Title: Re: Boot Badge Overlay Post by: Blown_FC on December 15, 2005, 11:25:34 PM Ken....well done....bloody brilliant !
My vote is......don;t mess around trying to please everyone re: colour and darkness.....just start pumping them out ! I'll have one for certain, and if you are doing horn buttons too....then I'll have one of them too ! While I'm at it, if anyone has the chrome surround that these boot badges insert into, can you please let me knoe, mine has broken tabs and I need to find a good for my resto ! Cheers Mark Title: Re: Boot Badge Overlay Post by: 20.4_seconds on December 16, 2005, 01:28:45 AM Very nice repro indeed...I guess that means I should put my horn button project on hold :-/
One question regarding the paint...Is it a modern oil based metalic? Has it been tested over a period of time to check how it reacts in the sun over a long hot summer? ( By this I don't mean fading, just cracking or crazing) I only ask as I have 4 horn buttons in paint at the moment and I'm just waiting to see how the modern paint goes in the sun :-/ It looks fantastic all the way and it gives new hope to those of us who can't afford $300 odd for NOS badges and buttons ! :P Nick Title: Re: Boot Badge Overlay Post by: les on December 16, 2005, 01:28:48 AM Quote Les, Any chance of a similar red color and detail for the Rares bonnet badge for an EJ?? ;D :P :P Cheers ...... Pete Pete I am not sure what you mean when you talk about the Rares bonnet badge for an EJ, we do not make this badge and any that we had were NOS. If you mean can we make one the same quality as the FC boot badge the answer is probably no as I do not believe the sales will be there Les Title: Re: Boot Badge Overlay Post by: Motörhead on December 16, 2005, 02:58:30 AM Quote Pete I am not sure what you mean when you talk about the Rares bonnet badge for an EJ, we do not make this badge and any that we had were NOS. How I wish my EJ bonnet badge was NOS!!! It was given to me quite a fair few years ago and I was told it had been originally bought from Rares .... just a pity it obviously isn't NOS but in very good condition nonetheless. :) I believe you could be pleasantly surprised that there might be more demand than expected for the EJ bonnet badge, they are hard to obtain in good condition and I know of many an EJ enthusiast willing to pay handsomely for a nice example.
