Title: trimatic for red or blue motor????????? Post by: brads59 on January 11, 2005, 10:45:37 AM Forgive me guys as this is not really fe/fc related
but was wondering if anyone can tell me is the bellhousing the only difference between a bluemotor trimatic and a red motor trimatic? Im trying to fit a tri out of a h series with red motor to my blue 3.3 wb ute. changed the bellhousing as i couldnt get it lined up and mate to engine properly but still wont go any ideas? Do i leave the converter on the flywheel or fit into trans first? Does the red one even fit or do i need a blue motor trans? Cheers Brad Title: Re: trimatic for red or blue motor????????? Post by: oldgmh on January 11, 2005, 10:52:29 AM The bellhousing bolt patterns are the same on a both gearboxes.
The main difference is that the selector linkages on a red trimatic are on the right hand side of the gearbox, whereas it is on the left hand side on a blue engine trimatic. I am not sure about the interchangability of torque convertors from one type to the other. Title: Re: trimatic for red or blue motor????????? The blue trimatic bell housing and converter should bolt straight up to the red, the only difference being the location of the shift actuator being on the right on red trimatics except UC Torana and Vb Commodore and on the left on a blue. You will need to use a commodore t-bar on the blue transmission. You should fit the converter to the transmission first and it has to slide onto a spline in the gearbox AND locate on the front pump lugs, if it has not located on the pump lugs it will not go on far enough to bolt up to the motor and if you use force you wuill damage the trans front pump. The motor was on the floor, flex plate and convertor bolted to the motor. Took a peek in the trans as to where the recess for the lugs where, lined up the convertor to suit, joined the trans and motor together with a slight twist to get the lugs in and she was sweet. It helps to have a 5 1/2 yr old child who weighs 30 odd kgs to build the muscles for this exercise :D
I remember doing this from under a car years ago with limited tools, it's a bugger of a job. |
