Title: Rail crossing
Post by: Hewart on January 04, 2005, 08:51:23 AM
Here is a photo of a locomotive crossing the Princes Highway at Russell Vale on it's way to South Bulli Colliery in around 1960.... and look what's waiting to cross the line... looks like an FC panel van. It has the short spear on the front guard, and what looks like a sliding window.... looks pretty neat!!

Neat pic.
Looks like it could have been a conversion by Canopy Industries.

Here's another shot, also taken in 1960.  This crossing is at Corrimal, near Tarrawanna Road.

A fine line up of cars await Corrimal Coal & Coke Company No 18 to cross over.  The locomotive was built in 1864, the 18th to enter service on the NSWGR.  It was finally retired in 1963 and can be seen at the NSW Rail Transport Museum http://www.nswrtm.org/

This picture is at http://libntserver.uow.edu.au/illaweb/scripts/default.asp?Lib=/IllaIms type in 'level crossing', it is image number 5.

Cheers

Brett

Gee these old pics seem really show just how popular the FE and FC holdens were in the late 50's/early 60's.

Don't worry about Sarge, Brett - his education's obviously not complete.  Old cars and steam locos - two great ways to travel.

Keep 'em coming, Les and Brett - terrific pics.

I know I don't.  ;D So keep them pic's coming Train's, Planes and Holden's and Holden's and Holden's ;) Oh dont forget the kid on the pushbike, (that Kid well could be a forum member these days)
