Hmmm, maybe I should sell up my stable and get a kombi for the tribe (3 yunguns and one on the way) :)

I have one 2 year old and another on the way( well the missus has) and that is why I built the kombi, I used the excuse that it could be used by the family,  I had never restored a vehicle before.
Did everything myself, best way to learn.
Its not perfect but its my own work and its done to my standard.

So I thought well I have the tools and I am getting bored, What type of car to do next,
I have always wanted an early wagon, even before I started on the kombi, So here goes, this time it will be a holden.
Sorry if I am not hardcore into Holdens, I really dont know anything about them apart from the fact that they look the best things on the roads.
I am not a VW person, in fact I hate beetles.
But I love the look of the split kombi, same as I love the look of the early wagons.

That's the way to go Dave, no particular brand loyalty, I never did understand the die-hard brand mentality (stinky ducks). We have a mixture of cars at home in the drive and the ad-hoc wrecking yard out the back. Holdens, Fords, an Austin Healey and Toyota.

Great looking Kombi, I think the old split screen Kombi's look great, I see quite a few up this way. When I lived in Adelaide I often saw one getting around from memory it was blue and white and look to be a show car or one that was treasured by its owner.

As for your quest for an early holden wagon I do a weekly trading post update in the Links section of the for sale and wanted area of the forum. I have noticed a couple of wagons from SA over the time however most seem to be over here in the east. I have noted at least 2 regulars in Vic that may be a little closer to home. I can also remember one for sale somewhere around murry bridge. Have a look back through my listings you never know what you will find and it never hurts to give some one a call and see if they still have it.

One bit of advice I will give you is research b4 buying. I have learnt quite a bit since my first buy and it is all thanks to the guy's and gal's from the forum and the club. Next time I go to look at a car I will be taking one our club members with me.

Come to think of it, there was a wagon advertised in the Club Mag. Located in Seacliff? A little too much rust for my liking, but appeared to be mostly original apart from the brushed on Solaguard paint.

I intend to go to the local club meeting(if they are as helpful as the ones on this forum, it will be great) and ask as many questions as they can stand,
It is a new experience for me, things like sub frames, baily channels, I have never heard of them.
But before I did the kombi I didnt know anythig about them either, I think the best way to learn is to have a go yourself, with a bit of advice from those in the know.

I did see a wagon for sale about 12 months ago on the way to Port Noarlunga, white over deep red, not bad but rust in the door bottoms.I think it was sold for about $1000

Grey looking Kombi, Dave - excellent job.  You'd do a mean job on an FC.

When you're looking around you'll find that most of the old Holdens have rust in the doors and particularly the sills under the doors - particularly at the front.  Good luck in your hunting.

'Killer Kombi' is excellent.  Even though it's a tad different to the FE/FC range, it's good to be reminded of the No2 selling brand when Holden was achieving 50.5% market share with the FE/FC.

Hey Dave, I thought you might like a "heads-up" on a model of the Kombi. I was at Hobby Habit (North East Rd), it was a die cast Maisto kit $21:50, not a lot of effort to put together 15 mins tops.

I guess the saving grace is that it's powered by a 308  ;D

Its used to tow a drag beetle,owned by Rod Penrose, it ran a 8.96, (the beetle not the bus) not bad for a volksie. Sorry I'll stop posting about VW's before I upset people.

I will only post about Holdens from now on.
