If I can offer two tips? (call me anal if you will) Some speaker cloth over the speakers in the grille, I think Jaycar still sells it (www.jaycar.com.au), well I hope they still do as I will prolly do the same. and a matching steering wheel - (http://www.ddauto.com.au/stock%20photos/Steering%20wheels/RG%202303.gif) I always wondered who would want a purple steering wheel. :D Title: Re: getting close Post by: Martin on December 15, 2004, 11:17:52 AM Magnificent job, Smithy. It's gonna look great. I've wondered what a chrome glovebox lid would look like - now I'm tempted. ;) ;D

kalfe, yeah im getting a little bit excited now, just been plodding along and teaching myself as i go. as this is my first attempt at a ground up rebuild , and doing most of the work myself (not panel and paint though) i have made a few boo boos but paitence is a virtue :-/ and so is having a understanding partner who now is just as excited as me ;D ;D Stinky, id never call you anal, well not without meeting you first ;D. i appreciate all suggestions and comments, i have been thinking about some black speaker cloth but from most angles the speakers dont look too bad they have blue metallic cones with chrome tweeters so the sort of work with the grill. and look like eyes poking out someone even suggested a blue neon behind the grill ??? ??? ??? :-/ BUT that purple wheel has got me salivating, where are they or is that one you have could you PLEASE pass on any details, i saw i white wheel similar to that at last years summernats but at $570 it was a little too much...i think Diablo motors sold them Martin, i saw or heard somewhere (cant remember ???) that guys used to ike the chrome glove box lids cause they could check out what colour panties if any theyre dates were wearing ;) thats not my reason though..... and rusty, you'll like this bit, the colour is a custom mix of F*#@ Phantom purple in de-beirs paint.( i think thats howits spelt) its got more of a blue flip to it in the highlights.. one last thing i must add is thanks Ret for looking afetr this site it has been a wealth of imformation and inspiration and without the help of every one on it the car would have never gotten to this stage... hopefully i will catch up with everyone in the snowies... dean Title: Re: getting close Post by: Glenn 'Stinky' Stankevicius on December 15, 2004, 11:48:54 PM I have got one of the wheels in blue on the FE, got it some time ago but I am sure it was less than $150 including the boss kit, that was from Autobarn.
Recently I got a wheel for my wife's Sprite for $60 off eBay from - http://www.ddauto.com.au/html%20pages/pagethirteen.htm I didn't get the boss kit this time as I had the MOMO one that was fitted modified for the wheel, then got the wheel painted in 2pac black to suit the car. This was the easiest (and cheapest) way to get a chrome and black steering wheel. Anyway, stores like Super Cheap and Autobarn should have them if you have no luck with D&D. PS. If you do get one and don't use the chrome horn button (the bosskit has a black button with manufacturer's logo) let me know as the one on my wife's car got broken. Title: Re: getting close Post by: smithy on December 16, 2004, 01:00:04 AM thanks stinky ive just sent them an email so we'll see how i go. i'll keep you in mind re the horn button.
Ed the hinges are just painted in a brushed aluminium colour from a can, not sure how long its going to last but it will do till i can find/ afford a set of chrome hinges... cheers dean |
