Title: Guard bolts & washers Post by: FC-V8 on December 14, 2004, 12:00:26 AM Hi all
Just wondering if someone could tell me if the bolts for the guards that screw in from inside the car near the kick panels go, has a special type of washer & rubber seal to prevent leaking. Its been ages since I took them off so I can't remember. Glenn Title: Re: Guard bolts & washers Post by: Ed on December 14, 2004, 01:03:11 AM Hey Glenn, a cup type washer with a rubber inside it. I am just going to use a rubber grommet and a flat washer as I never had a full set of these. Cheers Ed Title: Re: Guard bolts & washers Post by: Fast_Eddie on December 14, 2004, 02:39:48 AM Glenn,
As you may be aware, the original door rubbers had a flat section of rubber that acted as a seal between the guard and the A pillar. It may be worthwhile to replicate this with a thin piece of rubber glued to the A pillar, or the use of a seam sealer or similar. For the three bolts that attach the guard from the inside of the pillar, you may also wish to add some sealer to the washer under the bolt to ensure a watertight seal, as well as the rubber grommet as Ed suggests. I've found the rubber grommets tend to tear as the bolt is tightened. Regards Edward Title: Re: Guard bolts & washers Post by: FC-V8 on December 14, 2004, 02:53:41 AM Thanks Ed, Edward
I did run a seam of sealant where the guards meet the body but I wasn't sure about the washers. I will go down to the local nut & bolt place to see if I can get some cup washers to fit & cut out some rubbers to fit the washers if possible. If I can get some do you both want a set as well ?
