Title: Fuel tank breather. Post by: Ed on November 13, 2004, 02:55:52 AM Hi,
I am going to use a "Streetneat tank" and was curious to know where the standard breather is located.. im thinking it must be in the cap? I am using EFI and as such have hi flow pumps and upgraded to 3/8" lines. will the additional fuel flowing out of the tank mean I need to have a proper breather? There happens to be a spare unleaded type filler neck (with overlfow pipes and breather) kicking around in the shed, would it be worth my while to hook this up? Cheers Ed Title: Re: Fuel tank breather. Post by: sgo on November 13, 2004, 09:53:51 AM Did the engine you're using originally come out of a car running unleaded and a closed fuel tank system where the fumes are stored in a carbon cannister and not free to vent to the atmosphere? If so, then thats what you'll have to run now, to keep the engineer happy.
You'll probably have to use the smaller un-leaded filler neck as well, for him too. Title: Re: Fuel tank breather. Will install the unleaded filler, vent and overflow vented to atmosphere. is a red motor with EFI top end, should be OK in NSW. Cheers Ed Title: Re: Fuel tank breather. Post by: Dr_Terry on November 16, 2004, 07:02:39 AM Hi Guys.
The sealed fuel cap & canister vent system, began back in 1974 (early HJ). It didn't start with '86 unleaded rules. It depends on what type of Red motor, or whether your engineer is happy with pre-74 rules with a post 74 motor or top end. Some go by the engine block's age & some go by the type of carby/injection etc. Dr Terry. Title: Re: Fuel tank breather. Post by: Ed on November 16, 2004, 10:07:15 PM Thanks for the tip,
theres a nice spot under the fuel neck for a black canister should the need arise. Cheers Ed Title: Re: Fuel tank breather. Post by: Tumbles on November 23, 2004, 12:33:29 PM Good point about the emmisions, Dr. Terry, love to see the argument about what half of the eng fall under what law ;D ;D ;D
