I've thought about this a great deal... 1st you cant move your spring hangers as they are fitted to the subframe.. you cant put full tubs into a FE/FC because cutting the subframe is a no no (In NSW anyway).. unless you want to register your car as an ICV.. and pass all current ADR's... so mini tubs will be the easiest. essentially you would have to unstitch your inner guards (you can see the seam if u stick your head up in there - I was going to cut about 5mm inboard of this). then cut it out and go right back to the subframe (gaining about half an inch or so). make up a panel by carefully marking out the gaping void left by removing the wheel arch. tack in place and make a half moon-ish shaped inner panel. keep tacking until it's in. PRPOPIG (Brett) can prolly give u better pointers, as his ute has them. Harko is full of wild ideas too. The reason I didnt do it was... can already fit 225's with gobs of clearance. would of had to re-do my rear seat belts would have had to spend lots of time thinking about my rear seat lost alot of luggage space fatter tyres were more expensive I think I will enjoy my wagon as is... these are future mods for me placed on the back burner. springhangers were moved with the chassis rails as if in the original possi. this allows me to run 305x50x15. if running mini tubs, you wont have to move the hangers as they remain in their orig place. they would only have to be moved if going larger tubs. hope this helps brett (propig) Title: Re: REAR WHEEL TUBS Post by: FATBOY on December 01, 2004, 12:38:50 PM how did your engineer like it
cheers fatboy Title: Re: REAR WHEEL TUBS Post by: 56aussie on December 06, 2004, 11:13:34 AM Not wanting to hijack, Fatboy, but i have a few related questions.
Does anyone here have a measurement of just how much a diff moves sideways? So how far can you bring the wheels inwards before you need mini tubs? Is there a tyre clearance regulation measurement? Mine have about 70mm at the moment. I have 205/60/13s. They just barely touch the outer guards now. I think i can fit 245/50/14s if i reduce the inner clearance to about 25-30 mm. Mini tubs sounds like a lot of work to go to 265s. Cheers Tony |
