In NSW we've recently run our old three-letter, three-number series plates right out.  In their place has been introduced two-letter, two-number, two-letter jobs.  At this stage you can't order personalised ones in this format, otherwise you could have:
FE02FC
...and say the same thing ;D

cheers

Thanks Martin, is it easy to understand that it is meant to be "rusty fc"?
                                 Cheers Rusty

We are spoilt over here in W.A. , you can have any combination up to 9 characters and have them made in about 12 different colours. I have got `croozing` for my EK and `smokem` for my monaro.

I bet they don't charge you like wounded bulls over there for them either!  In NSW a "custom" plate (ie your choice of up to 6 letters/numbers) is about $400 per year, on top of regular rego.  It's just highway robbery.  These days even a "personalised" plate - a standard combination of letters and numbers - is at least $100 a year.  I can't see how it can be justified. :-/

cheers

It can't be justified Richard. The custom plates aren't around $400, they ARE $400. I have had my plates now for 10 years......could have bought another car with that money. At least the money is going towards all the fantastic roads we have here in NSW......OHHH hang on a minute.....WHAT A RIP OFF!!  >:( >:(

Rusty.... your plates are cool.

Regards Alex

I don't know what personalised plates, etc. cost in SA, but mine (the "historic" white-on-black all numeric) fall into what our government bandits call "class specific".  I have the rights to that number, and I can transfer it to another of my vehicles if I wish (but I won't because that's the original rego number of the car).  The rights to the number cost me $650.00 - but at least that's a once-only fee.  If I wish to transfer the number to another person, the transfer fee is 10%.

Apart from the right to use the number, what do I get for my money?  Bloody nuthin'.

Maybe we ought to be listing the respective motor registration departments under Rants Rave & Dummy Spits in that thread about "Profiteering"!!!!

Martin

PS.  Yep, Rusty - it's clear to me

I applied for 6 letter plate's for Shwrek up here in sunny Queensland. When I got the quote for $1395.00, I thought to myself the ones on the car are just great. either way I cant see them when I am driving. So your just feeding old John Howard and his side kicks and giving the car behind you something to read at the traffic light. Stuff-em I say let them buy a book.

Cheers

My plates cost a one off fee of 310 dollars for life, no more to pay and u can sell them if you wish, only drawback is they can only be six characters long.
                                      Cheers Rusty

WA plates cost around $300 for anything up to 7 digits and around $600 for up to 9 digits, and no annual fee,but I suppose  its only a matter of time.
