Title: experience with v6 conversions.
Post by: MikeM on August 16, 2004, 11:32:06 AM
I am in the process of installing a Pat Gardner v6 conversion for a FC - VS series II and the kit isnt as simple as I (non-trade) expected. (it was originally bought for a VN - FC conversion, so I expected some "quirks").  Pat is in the process of swapping the headers, speedo and wiring harness (I also need another electronic component which escapes me at the moment), for a healthy 20% re-stocking fee, but I still have issues I just discovered this weekend trying to drop the motor in  :(.  Anyone else done this that can help me?

the mounts are at the front of th X-member, as is the diagrams included in the 4 pages of install guide, but when I mount the motor the mounts are WAY out, I am Ok to re-buy the X-member mounts, but want to make sure I am not cocking anything else up in the process.

What type of gearbox mount have others used?  The greabox member holes dont match the standard commodore mount, so are they for a grey/red/blue/other?  I am concerned if I line the motor up to fit the sump into the gap between the rack and the front x-member that the gearbox is going to be way out.

Any experiences would be appreciated.

I recall reading somewhere that you MUST specify which model V6 engine you are using so the correct kit can be supplied.
VN & VS kits are different.

You do have to specify the type of motor, as it affects almost all the items required (now I know :).
