Title: New Zealand GM brochure Post by: customFC on July 24, 2004, 01:59:40 AM Here is the cover of a 4 page NZ General Motors brochure for 1959. Features all GM products from all the car divisions, with the most interesting being those FC's on the front.
Front: Vauxhall / Holden Inside: Corvette / Chevrolet / Buick / Pontiac / Olds / Cadillac. Back: Opel / Experimental Division. Brett Title: Re: New Zealand GM brochure Post by: RET on July 27, 2004, 05:27:13 AM My boy Ryan (who'll turn 3 in about a fortnight) has an impressive mastery of Holden models, and can pick a 48 (or forry-ayt in his lingo) from an FJ (hevjay) with what is disturbing accuracy. He's also got wagon and ute distinguished from sedan, although panel vans still give him a bit of trouble, they still get lumped in with the wagons.
I like to say he's so car-mad as to make his old man look disinterested ;D One of his favourite books is "Australia's Own", by Shane Birney. He loves to go page by page: "forry-ayt, forry-ayt, hevjay, FE daddy-car, FC poppy-car, Ekay" and so on. Anyway Brett, you'll be pleased to know that when he encounters the occasional Vauxhall in that book, even though he doesn't yet immediately recognise the model, when I tell him "that's a Vauxhall", he knows to respond: "they rubbish" ;D ;D ;D cheers RET Title: Re: New Zealand GM brochure Post by: Spinner on July 27, 2004, 06:20:33 AM Those Victors might look filthy & be rubbish, but they sound very nice.
Before I bought the FE for my daughter, I nearly bought one of those Pommy GM 'boxes on the strength of its exhaust note alone. Some prior research through the Pom GM Club showed that the asking price was about six times market value. They're basically a four cylinder EK, narrowed down a bit, or, if you like, a 3/4 scale model of a 1956 Pontiac. I used to be of the opinion those cars were crap, until I found one at the same property I found that 15,000 mile FC that I sold. This thing had 19,000 miles on the clock & was immaculate. The motor was a great big chunk of a thing & had a beautiful note. It also idled very nicely. The interior was the most awesome red leather & immaculate. Very, very comfortable. A friend of mine bought the car & she takes it to shows, where it seems to get quite a bit of attention. BUT, I stand by the opinion, that most of them are crap, but that model ppictured was bloody nice in the flesh. Can't beat a Holden, but! Rob J |
