Title: Ford/Valiant rims - standard sizes & offsets??
Post by: Fast_Eddie on July 19, 2004, 08:06:33 AM
My V8 FC project car has a Ford 9" diff and P76 front rotors, so that it shall run Ford wheels front and back.

I'm having problems finding a standard steel rim with the correct offset for the front, that doesn't foul the steering arms.

The set I have are 14 x 6" from an XD-XF, but I was wondering if anyone knows what differences there are in offset and rim width in earlier models, commencing from XL?

They have to be 14" diametre, and I'd prefer 4 1/2" rim size.

Or Valiant, of course!

Regards

Edward

i used a pair of late 70's toyota hilux 2wd ute rims for small offset so they could clear  steering arms on an old ford and they are only 4.5  x14 and are cheap

Make sure the centre hole of the wheel locates on the axle hub. For example, don't use XC rims on XB hubs.
The weight of the car is supported by the hub centre not by the wheel studs.
Sorry can't help with the offset.

Hey Ed,
These 4 1/2 inch rims are going on the front right?
A V8 FC with cut off discs all round would just sit in the one place.

Thanks guys.

Leigh, I want a set of four skinny rims to maintain the "original" look, as the car is being built to look like a fully restored original, standard ride height, venetian blind etc etc.

However, the 9" has been shortened and I'll fold the lip in the rear guards so that I can bolt on some reasonable width rims and slicks to get it down the 1/4 from time to time.

If you can't get anything standard, you should be able to take your rims to a wheel place and get them re-set to suit.
