Title: Sills and "A" Pillar for "Hilda" Post by: Emu on July 03, 2004, 12:50:31 AM Hi All,
Hilda's cancer treatment is in full swing! Sarge has jumped on board and has rekindled his welding skills. Car is progressing slowly but steadily. :) Exploratory Surgery has revealed severe invasive rust in the bottom of the passenger side A pillar. So..... what Sarge needs is the bottom of the A pillar and inner and outer sills going back about six inches. I think the whole bit could be cut out of a donor vehicle in one piece. Anyone handy with an angle grinder with an FC (Wagon) shell in the backyard? ??? I'm not sure if the wagon bit is an issue. Emu - Bird praying for help. Title: Re: Sills and A Pillar for "Hilda" Post by: craiga on July 03, 2004, 03:53:40 AM Hi Emu,
"A" pillar on wagon and sedan surely will be the same. If you can't get a good second hand one Rares sell inner and outer sills, and I just made the lower part of the pillar (where it bolts to the front subframe) using cardboard templates as a guide and a few swear words. Turned out OK in the end and looks fairly close to factory. Good Luck, Craig. Title: Re: Sills and A Pillar for "Hilda" Post by: Emu on July 03, 2004, 04:06:35 AM Thanks Craig,
Yeah.. that's the fall back position. Here's a pic of the bit I need for any who may have a shell lying around. The other side is salvagable apparently but this side is gooooooorrrne! Thanks heaps for the photos. I think ur right, it does look a hell of a lot more salvagable than "Hilda's" Just waiting for Sarge to long on and have a look. I have sent him a text message asking him to jump on and check out the pics. Shouldn't be too long. Thanks again Emu Title: Re: Sills and "A" Pillar for "Hilda" Post by: Fast_Eddie on July 06, 2004, 09:20:47 AM Emu,
Without wanting to be critical, if you blasted the ones Stinky has, they will end up looking pretty close to your own. The section isn't that hard to fabricate, as it does not have to look exactly as per original to function. The other problem is that even the most rust free cars I've seen, like my wagon, still need work in that section, so the liklehood of finding one to cut up in a short time frame may be unlikely. Is it possible to remove a guard off "Harvey" use for templates of the area? Just ideas, but I've repaired the section myself, taking it piece by piece, with a high degree of success, and I am a rank amateur when it comes to welding! (Today A pillar repairs, tomorrow the world!) Regards Edward Title: Re: Sills and "A" Pillar for "Hilda" Post by: Emu on July 06, 2004, 08:14:45 PM Ed,
Its a very good point u make. After talking with Sarge, "We Concur". I'm going to grab an outer sill and he'll make up the inner and "A" pillar bit. He's a legend with the welding and we were just trying to save a bit of time. What u said about even the best section requiring "some" work is true. Stinky, Thanks heaps for the offer. Your a legend too! I'll post the pics of the progress under "Hilda's Extreme Makover" Emu Title: Re: Sills and "A" Pillar for "Hilda" Post by: -KIWI- on July 12, 2004, 12:13:40 AM as kiwi is a helpful bird i hope these pics help these are of my lhf a pillar as it was repaired

Which is Defend my country and protect all my countrymen, from short ass big nose little flightless birds that think they can do anything faster or better than us Aussie. ;) Regards Sarge P.S You will need to do more than name a car after my leader's daughter. As now now I have to defend both Emu & the Happiness of Miss Sarah. :) P.S.S So in Kiwi terms this all mean section 11.2. Well that page is missing from my book.
