Title: emu vs kiwi anzac day truce
Post by: -KIWI- on April 25, 2004, 04:49:00 AM
They shall grow not old,
As we that are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them,
Nor the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun,
And in the morning,
We will remember them

Good work Kiwi,

Truce is in place until midnight tonight.

I'm off to the Tweed RSL march with the six tin lids. We always attend as a  family. I think its an important part of my kids education as to who they are as Aussies (Anzacs in this case).

My dad used to take me to the marches in Sydney in the 1960's. There were huge contigents of WW1 vets marching. I remember him saying to me that one day there'll be none of those guys left to march. That day has come.
Now I take my kids, and I've been known to tell them that one day there won't be any WW2 vets left to march and we, as a nation, will be marking the passing of the last veteran of the second war.
So, we as a family pay our respects to those guys while we have the chance..........then I go and play two up and have a beer!!!  Not really, but I'm glad the old diggers that are still around can.

I think its amazing  that there is still enough patriotism left in our ever expanding countries ( and NZ as well) population  for this traddition to still continue. I think its great that we still  remember the people that  gave up their lives  so we can enjoy such Aussie/NZ  things as Holdens ,Anzac biccies, beer, ( mmmmmm... anzac biccies and beer :P).

We are a nation that is fast becoming/evolving into something diffferent  all the time. Some times we wonder if WE are becoming the minority... Days like today help us hang onto the threads of what we were once all about.  Lest we forget. Cheers streetneat .

Streetneat, that is a great posting, one thing that i feel strongly about is losing our identity as aussies and you put into perspective just right
                                                   Cheers Rusty

My daughter and I just got home from our local RSL(Monbulk vic) and it was a fantastic turnout even tho the weather is total shite. Its great to see so many people young and old take the time out to pay respects.

Mrs Streetneat adding here also. ;D
I was very moved by the Anzac parade held at my children school on Friday. ;)
Must be getter older and wiser in my age as are also learning the Australian national anthem.
This may take a while as Kiwi's are slow learners don't forget. BTW I have citizenship in Aussie but you CAN'T change where you were born...
Have just finished baking some Anzac biscuits using my trusty Edmonds cooking book. Mr has already eaten some and thinks they are pretty good even if they were made by an Kiwi.....

Any time any one is in doubt of the Aussie spirit or our Identity, Just take a trip down to your nearest military base and have a look at our future. Trust me its alive and well. The Digger's who gave their all will never be forgotten. LEST WE FORGET WE WILL REMEMBER THEM.

Sorry being late on this one ,  but I agree with you all , we owe what we have to those guy's.
 My Dad doesn't miss a march , he's 85.

Pic of him in this years march. He trained in WA and was in Borneo at the end of WW2.
