coloured in the engine bay, final fit up of fuel (can see the feed/return lines in the tunnel) radiator support panel to be painted semi gloss black. front end removed for detailing - semi gloss black. had more pics but had camera on the wrong setting unfortunately. the car is under the shed awning, with lots of other stuff. U can see the remains of a tarp hanging there too... I made walls with tarps, but wind, rain and UV light has got the better of these over time. I dont have any room under cover to work on the car as such, so a paved area is my garage floor. this is OK i guess... the weather has to be on my side tho to get things done. Hi Stinky, the recess is a story on its own... Originally I had the chassis rails and motor fitted up (to save time etc). the engineer (a well known Sydney guy) thoughtfully moved the motor back and recessed the firewall for me... then he told me what he did.. thx mate. he did a practical but very UGLY recessing job.. looked like two bits of folded kellogs box cut into the firewall... there goes the nice firewall.. thx mate. originally I had a 253 and toyo 5 speed, but after some thought decided this combo wasnt going to cut the mustard.. this led to me purchasing Tony Catlin's 308/TH400 combo from his HX Caprice. After fitting this up, I was ready to paint the engine bay but.... those ugly recesses had to go. I formed up the recess using EK wagon roof corners and bits of HR bootlid, trying to match the lines of the original stampings. anyway on the motor side of things, a bit more research into cylinder heads revealed later model VN heads were the go for flow, so the L34 spec heads on the 308 were sold and replaced with mildly ported VN heads having L34 valves as std. since i was there, EFI seemed the way to go too, it only requires an extra few fuel lines, pumps, filters, reg, ECM and various sensors... in the end, the recess has worked out OK, allowing lots of room for myriads of engine extras.. one day I will probably change it.. but for now I have deadlines to meet and a car I am dying to drive.
