Title: Factory Sound Deadening
Post by: Fast_Eddie on April 06, 2004, 02:24:46 AM
Does anyone know if the original bitumen/carboard product that was glued to the floor pans, boot floor and to the boot panel skin of FC's is still available?

I've only been able to find the modern underlay type product to date, which is not really what I'm after.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Regards

Edward

Gday Edward,
This is from Eddy Hoek's FJ website.  Don't know if it helps. :-/
"
Floorpan tar paper inserts - where do you get them?
So where do you get the 3mm bits of tar board that sit in the reinforcing panels in the floor to level them up? The best way is to get them from an old wreck you see around the place. The second method is to get them from a not so old Holden (but you will have to cut them to shape). The last way is to buy some similiar stuff from a VR commondore. Part No: m40384, 1220mm x 610mm x 2.3mm (about $30)."
quote/unquote. ;)

The trade name for the deadening material is malthiod. And it used to be available at large hardware stores as it was used on flat roofs to waterproof them.I haven't bought any for years but should still be available.
Cheers,
Graham

Now that Graham gives the trade name for the stuff,  yes, it is still available.  The use that I'm familiar with is carriage roofs.
