Title: The other car Post by: FCwagon on March 30, 2004, 09:16:06 AM Have just got my FB back on the road after a heart transplant, Trimatic and HR brakes all round. The colour has been on for a while and that was thanks to some good info from CraigA and RET. The main colour is an original FB Castille green but the flash is F**d Meteorite. Drove it for a bit with a tired grey motor and 3 speed. New engine is a rebuilt 186, yella terra head, X2 carbies with extractors & twin system exhaust. The interior is an FC front seat re-trimmed in the FC pattern in case I want to fit it in the FC once she's finished. A bit of advice on choice of colour when using wool mix material for seats - don't use black!! It shows every speck of lint, dust and whatever else is in the air >:(

cheers trev Title: Re: The other car Post by: craiga on March 30, 2004, 09:39:38 AM Well done Leigh, the FB looks really nice. Must sound alright too with dual pipes on a six!!
There was a bit of a fad in the 80's when everybody with a hot six put dual pipes on. Makes quite a nice sound when done properly. Cheers, Craig. Title: Re: The other car Post by: customFC on March 30, 2004, 10:45:51 AM Very striking looking FB mate.
You have done a nice job putting it all back together. Regards Alex Title: Re: The other car Post by: Ed on March 30, 2004, 08:46:11 PM very stylish Leigh.. I like the centre console.

David Title: Re: The other car Post by: FCwagon on March 31, 2004, 09:14:50 AM Thanks for all the kind words guys.
I'm pretty happy the way it has turned out. I started it off as a first car for my son about 3 years ago. There was heaps of bodywork to be done and because I hate doing the body stuff, I just went out and kicked the tyres most weekends, but once I had it in primer I hired a panel shop spray booth and a painter finished off the colour for me. When I saw the finished article I knew the young bloke wasn't gunna get near it so I bought him a HR instead. Craig - I had the exhaust built by a local expert who has 5 Hot rods and knows how to get a nice note out the back. (I'll be recommending him in the new section) It can be driven quietly but I can stand on the loud pedal and it really barks. Trying to lose the old fart image I guess but I really love that sound and the twin pipes are something different on a six. Graham - Because it sat about a lot in the early days it's taken me about 3 years. Once painted it took about a month to refit everything as a stock grey and just recently it was off the road again for about 4 months fitting the new engine etc. Haven't been counting the dollars but it's been a fairly cheap car so far. Earlee - Radiator is HK auto. The FB's are easy as to fit a wider radiator. You just cut a bit out and drill new mount holes because it all sits squarely behind the bonnet catch bar. EJ_Dave - Yeah that WW is a real hornbag eh? Title: Re: The other car Post by: FCwagon on March 31, 2004, 09:16:53 AM me & the missus.......... I wish :P
Title: Re: The other car Post by: ChrisB on March 31, 2004, 09:19:09 AM That is a nice looking FB, like the X2 carby setup just adds a nice touch.
What wheels, 13 or 14 inch and what dress rims. Are they a deeper dish than standard dress rims Cheers ChrisB 8) Title: Re: The other car Post by: FCwagon on April 01, 2004, 02:18:39 AM Rims are 13 x 6 Torana with reversed centre. The trims are just a standard set I picked up at a swap.
Title: Re: The other car Post by: oldgmh on April 01, 2004, 08:13:08 AM Leigh - thanks for the info about the radiator.
What type of kickdown have you fitted? electric on a different pedal setup? mechanical as on early trimatics? or none (ie manually select as required?) Earlee Title: Re: The other car Post by: FCwagon on April 01, 2004, 07:32:26 PM Hi Earlee,
I've used the accelerator pedal & kickdown switch from UC Torana (as well as the normal vaccum kickdown). The switches are self adjusting which is good because I had to make a new bracket to mount it off the pedal near the A pillar. Easy to do but there are other pedal set ups in HJ's etc which are all in one with the switch bracket & pedal as one unit. I just wandered through a wreckers to find what I felt was best to fit. cheers, Leigh |
