Title: creaking clutch pedal
Post by: fc_ute on March 16, 2004, 01:44:07 PM
every time i depress the clutch pedal in the ute it makes a creaking noise which actually seams to come from the return spring. i have lubed all pivot points but it still makes this load creaking noise. any suggestions to quiet it down?

I had a creak which came from the pedal pivot bush on top of the pedal.  It was difficult to get to and lubricate but persistance with a can of WD40 fixed it.

G'Day Gary,
You will find that the creaking noise is the large return spring.
Lube both ends of the spring. It's usually the end connected to the pedal.
Use black moly grease or Never Sieze.

Another more likely source of the creak is the sintered bronze bush which is installed in the top of the pedal assemble, if you ignore this it will wear the cross shaft and then you have to find one of those.
About Time Spares have thses bush's NOS and reasonable priced, I recently replaced both of mine and it makes a huge difference to the pedal movement, they have to be prelubricated before installation as per the workshop manual.

They are not too bad to replace the hardest part was getting the individual pedals out, I have a heater demister installed in the way,if it was not there it would be a piece of the proverbal (About 2 hours from start to finish with the heater in the way). Oh I do have a bench press which made it easier to push in and out.

Good Luck
John M

PS WD40 is a very short term fix as it actually wash's the grease out of the bush.

True but that was a Qld problem, a bit like starter motors and oil pressure and of course gearbox's ::)

Just a note Wd 40 is not a long term lubricant, it is like a degreaser, penetrant etc. and you will find the noise will return- try lithium grease as it comes in a can and easy to use.
