Title: O/T: No oil.. what happens? Post by: Ed on March 12, 2004, 10:49:13 PM Hi All,
What happens when.... a motor runs low on oil, and the term "SEIZED" gets used to decsribe it's current state? Ive recently acquired a bike with a "Seized" motor apparently from low oil and doing wheelies... Is it generous to expect the crankshaft is dead, main bearings, big ends, maybe oil pump, more? it's a 2cyl parallel twin motor with OHC... apparently it still spins but with hideous clunks. I am yet to drop the oil, as it only just got to my place last nite. Any advice/stories would be great Cheers Ed Title: Re: O/T: No oil.. what happens? Sounds like the previous owner must be a relative of my wife. ""Oil, I thought that was an optional extra."" or ""Thats Oil on the end of the dipstick"" or ""Oooh thats were the oil goes"" or ""Thats your job to check the oil, Dad use to do it for me"" Title: Re: O/T: No oil.. what happens? Post by: Ed on March 13, 2004, 05:31:53 AM Hi Jim,
It's kind of like that although in this case the engine was destroyed by wilful abuse. i ride with this mate regularly and this blown motor is testament to his skills at keeping a bike on one wheel for a very long period of time. I fall short at around the 150metre mark, he goes as long as the road is straight. He is whats known as a "stunter" and he does some very strange things with bikes. the oil was a little low, and wheelstands meant the oil didnt get pumped around efficiently enough. I reckon its pretty hilarious. Cheers Ed Title: Re: O/T: No oil.. what happens? I have tracked down a low km motor at the wreckers which may be alot easier.. Cheers Ed |
