This is not related to FE-FC yet you've been helpful with all my queries about FCs and grey motors and i know a lot of you know much about red motors... I've bought a 179 for my EH that has been rebuilt but not started. It got a 30/70 cam, straight cut timing gears and a twin point dizzy, new water pump, bearings etc. It also has whats meant to be a yella terra stage 3 head. Its not on the motor and not put together but im unsure of what it really is...its: -cast iron -yellow -all valves and rockers have YT stamepd on them - double springs but the head itself does not say yella terra and has a 5 stamped on the underside, and the serial code A244, plus HOLDEN on it. lloks much like a holden head to me but since i've never seen a yella terra head i have no idea. any help would be appreciated!!! that explains why it looks like a holden head. The bloke said it was a stage 3...does that 5 stamped on the underside mean it may be a stage 5 though? and can you or someone else recommend a carb set up? I'm a poor student...but i know hollys have some problems - for for $150 i can get a red line manifold and holly 350 - pretty cheap for the performance i guess? i'm in no rush to put it together. anytips for a worked 179 would be great! thanks for the help! 1) The Holley Inlet manifold 2) XE/XF Holley Adaptor Plate 3) Webber Carburettor of an XE/XF 4.1 (250 ci). Put the adaptor plate on the manifold (upside down) then fit the Webber to the adaptor plate. The Webber does need to be jetted to suit the Red Motor. The Webber off a XE/XF is a vacuum secondary type whose primary is a bit smaller than the BVX-2 Stromberg, the secondary is larger than the Strommy. Advantages: far better fuel economy when driving than what the Holley (350 cfm I'm guessing) and plenty of power when you get into it. The Webber seems to make 'lumpy' cams a bit more driveable too.
