Title: Alloy rocker cover.. weldable?
Post by: Ed on January 22, 2004, 07:45:20 AM
Hello,

I want to slightly modify one of my rocker covers (std Holden EFI type).

These are some kind of alloy, I have no idea what type etc..

Would this be weldable?

Cheers

Ed

If it's metal you can weld it...
Welding ali is a fine art so I'd recommend searching for fabrication show that specializes in Ali, offshore construction mobs generally have the gear and welding procedures to this but will take forever and a day to actually do the work for you.

Best bet would be to get an Ali boat builder to have a go. you can always grind and polish back any welding you aren't happy with.

I read a hot rod build up story recently on a 20's Ford hybrid roadster. They used a Holden Starfire engine, and cut down and rewelded a finned red motor rocker cover from a six to fit the four.

I'd imagine therefore it would be possible to modify your EFI rocker covers. Maybe talk to the guys who fabricate aluminium and stainless steel fuel tanks and the like? They seem to advertise in Street Machine etc.
