Title: piston work
Post by: trent on March 07, 2001, 01:00:00 PM
I need to replace the piston rings in my FC(grey)stationsedan and was just wondering if it possible to drop the sump and get to the pistons from underneath?  If so is it worth doing it that way or is it more trouble that taking the motor out?  thanks  trent(monkeyburgermachine@hotmail.com)

It's much easier to replace pistons with the engine out. If you don't have an engine lifter or block & tackle etc. then the sump can be removed with the engine in the vehicle. Just means you spend a lot of time on your back - ouch!

I agree with Leigh, to remove the sump u have to take out the steering linkages and lift up the motor anyway.  Then there is the crossmember in the way and cleanlinessreplacing bearing caps etc.  I wouldn't attempt it.  Ken
