Title: Vaccum wiper problem Post by: BrendanC on September 28, 2003, 09:43:34 AM Hi all,
The project is nearing roadworthy time but I have a problem with the wipers I dont think would pass. It is the standard vaccum setup. When I switch them on they do two good passes of the screen, but then take forever to return. They get stuck at the outward position, but if I turn them off while they are out, they immediately (and quickly) return back to the bottom of the screen. Given that I am restoring this car close to original, I would like to keep the vaccume set up. I have reconditioned the vaccume/fuel pump so I`m sure the diaphrams are good. Also I have only recently put the wiper assembly back on the car so all joints are lubed and free. Is the motor servicable? Does anyone reco them? Any suggestions what may be causing this? Thanks, Brendan. Title: Re: Vaccum wiper problem Post by: Shayne on September 30, 2003, 04:15:25 AM Brendan,
This link to an excellent FX-FJ Tech website may help. http://www.oldholden.com/fxfjclub/technic15.htm Best of luck with finishing off your resto. Title: Re: Vaccum wiper problem Post by: mcl1959 on September 30, 2003, 07:47:17 AM Pull apart the wiper motor and clean out the old grease, generally gets hard and difficult for the paddle to work through. Load up with a big gob of new rubber grease and reassemble.
The new grease will improve the seal for a while as well. This is not a long term fix but may improve your wipers enough to get them working. Ken Title: Re: Vaccum wiper problem Post by: BrendanC on September 30, 2003, 10:34:47 AM Thanks guys for the advice. I`m onto it....

Title: Re: Vaccum wiper problem Post by: BrendanC on October 07, 2003, 10:33:55 AM Just to let you all know, just incase your wipers are a bit sluggish like mine, Ken was right on the money. I cleaned out the old sticky grease, cleaned the paddle, re-lubed and put back together and they work like new.
Thanks again, Brendan. |
