Title: getting springs in a HR front-end?
Post by: fjalldway on September 18, 2003, 09:34:32 AM
hi everyone,
i'm new here. i know it isn't a FE-FC question, but this seems like that best place to ask on the Net as the forum looks quite large.  :)

i'm just wondering how do you go about putting springs back in a HR front-end that has been pulled to bits...i'm trying to get it back together but am not sure how to get the springs in.

we tried one spring compressor but it didn't fit.  :(

any ideas..??

thanks,
Aaron.

Is the front end in a car or out?  Very difficult to do out of the car.  I made a compressor which goes down through the shocker bolt and is made up of a length of all thread which is clamped to the lower coil.
Then you tighten up a nut at the top of the shocker to pull the spring up. Still difficult to do.

yep, it is out of the car.

and even if we did put it on the car...it still has no engine or anything so wouldn't be very heavy..

hmm..  ???

Hi Aaron,
The way i've refitted the springs with the front end out of the car is to compress the springs with a hydraulic press and then tie them with fencing wire.
Hope this helps,

Hi Aaron,
had to do this to an FC frontend recently that I was putting back together, I used booker rod (threaded rod) same as Ken but I cut two flat plates to sit nicely for top and bottom of shock mounts. Worked a treat, and front end was out of the car on two saw horses
