Title: Holden taxis Post by: Hewart on September 16, 2003, 05:30:23 AM G'day everyone....
I started looking for a few FC Holden taxi photos to make up a bit of a montage to compare the differences re: Special v Business Sedan, taxi light on the visor or turret, and privateers v taxi companies... I ended up with 29 pics stretching almost 1.9m deep at (30cm wide)... That was too big too post here, so I cut it up into 8 pieces and posted them on this site: http://www.geocities.com/hewart01/holdentaxis.html Have a look if you're interested.... some of the pics I've posted here in the past, and some are new ones.... here's a sample... (http://photo.starblvd.net/hewart/3-2-5.jpg) Enjoy.... Les... ;) Title: Re: Holden taxis Post by: RET on September 16, 2003, 06:09:43 AM Les,

We've busted your Geocities site by exceeding downloads. People will have to try tomorrow to see if they've opened it back up for you. I got to see most of the photos before the site went down, and would like to thank you, your effort is much appreciated. Cheers, Craig. Title: Re: Holden taxis Post by: peterwmh on September 16, 2003, 08:46:41 PM Gotta love the driveway attendant with the cap and all!!
The days of SERVICE stations, ahh the memories!! I remember working at one through uni and a guy in a 1955 or 56 Chev rolled up and said fill her up, I went to find the cap, then remembered my father saying it was behind the tail light on some Chevs, opened it up and started filling, the driver was most surprised that this pimplefaced kid knew where it was!! It has only recently been restored and put on road as original taxi.

Yes, email it to me if you could, I would be very grateful ;D. I have been looking & looking & looking &, well you get the idea. I have no idea of how rare they were when they were first built, but they seem very scarce now. Even photos are hard to come by. I have a couple of shots of FC standards in black & FB Standards in all the other colours, but not 1 Black FB :'( :'( :'( My email address is: r2t2@bigpond.com.au Regards, Rob J Title: Re: Holden taxis Post by: customFC on September 20, 2003, 02:47:01 AM How about an all black Special!!
Regards Alex Title: Re: Holden taxis Post by: zulu on September 20, 2003, 07:16:41 AM Alex I like it, especially those spinner hubcaps! :) I think they look better with the white rings rather than the red. If anyone out there has any of these hubcaps that they want to convert into cash, I am still looking for 1 or 2 in extra good nick. :(

Hey 4hammers, I hope you got those pics I emailed a whle ago, sorry no FB Standards though...!!! As for them being rare, I'm guessing looking at this pic that Black EKs would also be rare... I can't see one here at all.... (http://photo.starblvd.net/hewart/6-5-4.jpg) Cheers... Les..... PS: Happy New Year... 8) Title: Re: Holden taxis Post by: zulu on January 01, 2004, 02:17:19 AM Maybe black was government or special order only.
Gary Title: Re: Holden taxis Post by: Hewart on January 06, 2004, 08:25:55 AM And what about some Black FE Standards....? Special orders....? I'll take a couple... ;D ;D
(http://photo.starblvd.net/hewart/3-3-4.jpg) Cheers Les.... Title: Re: Holden taxis Post by: nicko on January 06, 2004, 09:32:48 AM what awsom photos, but makes me wonder why there is only a few white ones around when they seem to be the main colour at Fishermans Bend or wherever that shot was taken.
Title: Re: Holden taxis Post by: RET on January 07, 2004, 04:15:42 AM As it happens there is only one White colour in the FE range (Cascade White), and it was only available coupled with Etna Maroon, a very rare combination. There are a few lightish greys, and the lighter greens and blues tend to look very washed out on a sunny day. Even the colour called "Sarasota White" is actually green!
And from a black and white photo taken on what was obviously a very sunny day, every light colour is going to look like white! :o Hope that helps. As far as the EKs are concerned, by then the Acrylic Lacquers with the pastel colours (like the yellows and pinks and so on) were all the rage, and perhaps black was simply less popular...? cheers RET |
