Title: Tail light lens and wiring
Post by: Ronno on June 12, 2023, 03:37:42 PM
Looking at the original wiring diagram in my workshop manual it shows the stop, turn and tail light going to a double filament globe (the red lens) and the backup (reverse) going to a single filament globe (the clear/orange lens).

My question is should it be left like this as it was in the fifties or would it be better to modify it more up-to-date?; possibly the stop and tail light only to the red lens,(this could also benefit from a separate wire from the stop light switch to the second filament as at present one black wire appears to serve both stop and tail). And then to fit a double globe/fitting for the reverse and indicator light to the clear/orange lens?

Regards Ronno

The late FC had amber lower rear lenses as blinkers & reverse lights, but used a single filament globe.

Have a look at the wiring diagram for FB/EK ute & van.

Ronno ..In my case 1958 FC special sedan ..the lower rear clear lense never fitted with globe or holder ex factory and was that way when I got the car in 2016 .and thats bcause the brake light was also the rear blinker , obvously Holden had the fitting there and got it together in 1959 ..I decided that in traffic and todays drivers they would think " that poor old bugger has a problem with his brake light , not realising I am going to make a turn ...so I got bulb holders , kept clear lense , put in amber LED globes , moved the blinker wire from brake lights to the new amber holder . extra wire is needed as per a FB or EK diagram ..for me its what people recognise as an amber turning indicator and therefor safer ..Vern .
