Title: Fc brake drums Post by: Wookie66 on March 20, 2022, 06:57:02 PM Hi all
Now that My fc wagon is registered I managed to have a decent drive today, now I have a few little issues to sort I’m looking for 2 front brake drums that can be machined The ones I have are just about shot Thanks Trevor Title: Re: Fc brake drums Post by: ardiesse on March 20, 2022, 08:24:05 PM Trevor,
What's (not) happening? Are your drums out of round, for example? Rob Title: Re: Fc brake drums Post by: Wookie66 on March 21, 2022, 06:51:38 PM Hi yes the brake shop said they are out of shape and can’t be machines
Only done one local run from the rego office and they shake the crap out of the steering They must have been just borderline for the blue slip I’m looking forward to taking someone else for a drive just to have a second opinion an how it all runs I’m not sure what a 64 year old car is suppose to drive like as I’ve not driven one before my rego trip. Cheers Title: Re: Fc brake drums Post by: my8thholden on March 22, 2022, 07:27:04 AM Wookie ..Out of round drums don't necessarily shake the steering wheel really badly , out of round usually means machining ,and as you have found they cant be machined any more , they must also be distorted or buckled , some how , its a wonder you were able to fit them without being suspicious something is not right ,I would also check your steering goemetery if it magnifies the fault so badly .and wheel balance...you will get some good drums i'm sure ...Vern .
I had a really good condition stock standard rim when restoring my car , needed a ton of lead to balance and bead seat was weird , I guess a reject slips through the system now and then ,we concluded why it was in such good condition it was never used much .maybe on a trailer.it went to the scrappy ... Title: Re: Fc brake drums Post by: ardiesse on March 22, 2022, 03:19:41 PM I've got a few FC drums spare. They've been machined, but I don't know if they run true.
The alternative is to go buy a pair of EJ-EH drums new, and then get a machine shop to narrow them down so they don't rub on your backing plates. Or run new EJ-EH drums without modification, and change the front backing plates and shoes over to FB-EK. rob Title: Re: Fc brake drums Post by: Wookie66 on March 22, 2022, 06:31:01 PM I didn’t realise the eh drums would fit like that
That’s the way I’ll go I can buy new ones no problems readily available It has new tires and balanced and wheel alignment done last Friday Thanks for your assist much appreciated Cheers Title: Re: Fc brake drums Post by: Errol62 on March 22, 2022, 09:35:11 PM I have most of the FB EK brake parts you need, excluding front backing plates. Plenty of shoes, both usable and for Rebonding.

What would I have to change if I change to FB-EK brakes ? Cheers Title: Re: Fc brake drums Post by: Errol62 on March 23, 2022, 07:47:20 AM See above. You need FB EK backing plates and shoes. Also the shoe retaining pins may be slightly longer. The remaining mechanisms, wheel cylinders certainly are the same. I have more or less complete assemblies if you need anything.

you only need to change over to FB-EK brakes at the front. Leave the rear brakes as they are, including drums. Rob Title: Re: Fc brake drums Post by: Wookie66 on March 24, 2022, 07:00:36 PM Ok great thanks for the info I guess I’ll have to make a call on which way to go
Cheers Title: Re: Fc brake drums Post by: Errol62 on March 28, 2022, 05:23:44 PM Trevor,
Sent you some FB EK drums and shoes which I hope you can use. Sorry I don't have any front backing plates. Those I had were sent to another forum member attached to a complete front crossmember. If they don't need the backing plates they may be willing to send them to you. Cheers, Clay Sent from my SM-G781B using Tapatalk |
