Title: Hy-way external sunvisor
Post by: Laszlo on October 30, 2021, 09:07:36 AM
Hi everyone  !

Finally I have my sunvisor from Hy-Way, one piece no middle support.
Painted, ready to go.
I read on the Ek forum, somebody  had a similar  visor with no middle roof bracket. He had a problem on higher speed the visor started flapping and damaging the side bracket srews.

Anyone has sunvisor with no middle support  ?
How they holding  up ? What is your experience  ?

Hy-way supplied four small stainless steel brackets what you can see on the photo. I  have a feeling  I have to make a lot bigger one. They saying the visor has to seat in the gutter of the roof.

Thanks : Laszlo

I agree, I don’t think I would trust those little brackets.
Later Holden’s with no centre bracket have a much more substantial side bracket

This is like your's but has a central support

I believe this is a genuine unit, but has no front edge, I've seen a few like this

This is like yours Laslo, but does have a chromed metal edge to strengthen it

The sunvisor seems to be strong enough with the folded chrome edge.  My concern is about the weaker brackets. I'm definitely need a bigger, stronger bracket.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20211030/90000bc8ab6bc3b85213bc9cd6861251.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20211030/f1bcc133b5e44c0f3e6d0c6d422db62b.jpg)

Lazlo ..I am in the same situation as you , I have a one piece with a front chrome rib ,but have not refitted back on car after resto , it has shaped stainless clamps which are same width as the ends of the visor , but have been really bashed around in their life ,which sort of indicates to me pretty rough attempts to fix problems , also screws fitted from underside of gutter up through the gutter to strengthen as well as rely just on the clamp action ..the holes in the gutter were welded up during resto ..its part of the job I have not got back to , I have asked around contacts and to make clamps like the original ones is not easy ..If you have any luck let me know please as I will definately order also ..I hope Pete Mallaby reads this ..if you want to see image of what mine look like ,send your mobile to me and I can send to you , I have never mastered putting images on here ,,keep well Vern 0405 703 413

Thanks guys for the replies  !

My number 0419757118

Vern will be a big help if you can send the photo of the brackets.  If you can put down the measurements too please.

My sunvisor were well  made by Hy-way  just the brackets..... hmm I don't want to lose it on the "Hy-way".
And they send me four 10-12 mm srew to secure it. I think I will try to drill a hole into the gutter and use a bolt. I'm not sure can be done like that. How is anyone else visor secured to the gutters? Bolt or tin screws  ?

If anyone else can send me a photo of they brackets will be appreciated. I never see the brackets in person, and on the net just a few doggy photos I can find.

Cheers: Laszlo

The photos are from Vern.
His got a similar visor then mine,  one piece no centre support.
Originally he had the visor on his car, with this  brackets
Looks similar than some of the later models.
What do you think can we use other models brackets? Just a thought.

Otherwise I  have to get my coach builder friend a few slab of beer......

Hey Lazlo your local sheet metal shop will be able to fold some brackets out of stainless using one of your originals. The brackets will be plenty strong enough to keep your visor in place because the visor is held captive in the gutter by the brackets and the chrome band should stop it bending in the middle.
