Title: fc rear gear box seal
Post by: Dave on December 01, 2000, 01:00:00 PM
can anyone tell me where to get a rear gear box seal that actually seals?
I've tried 2 from rare spares in the past year but they both have leaked, I think they were past thier use by date, the rubber was very rigid.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
thanks
Dave

Hi Dave the best place I have found for such parts as oil seals is CBC (Consolidated Bearing Company). Bring in your old seal and they will match it up with a seal that will do the job. If you havent already check the tailshaft where it inputs into the gearbox for signs of wear. It may actually be the tailshaft that is scored eventually causing the seal to leak. Good luck.

dave, new seals are made from neoprene rather than the rubber/felt combination that was used in the past and consequently seem much harder.  As a result of this change they are much less forgiving on worn shafts and I would concur with Dave's opinion that your yoke may need machining.  Ken
