I'm starting to pull together the bits for the meth monster project - Norman blown, McGee injected, Repco headed, dry sumped FB Holden. Aim of this one is to keep it fairly period-correct, and to minimise the changes as much as possible. Aiming to keep the kingpin front end, and steering box.

A collapsible column will be mandatory though for the engineering. Had a good chat to George at Alien Retro, and looks like he can make up a replacement FB column for me to mate to the steering box, fully collapsible, and engineered. Happy days. Not cheap, but directionaly the way I want to go.

I'll need to provide George my FB column, and he also needs an early Holden collapsible column. Anyone got an early Holden collapsible column they can part with? Probably don't need to box or wheel, more the guts and mount.

There are a few blokes that have done them using Commodore parts, but it looks like I can't go down this path. I can't weld, so have to farm the task out. Whoever does the task will either have to provide full test reports, or supply an engineering cert for the column. The only place I know that can do this for me is Alien, who build their columns off the early Holden bits rather than Commodore.

I had my column converted to collapsible by George, very happy with the end product. He is also great to deal with.

I had mine done by Alien. Really good work. I have a cheap HJ one you can have?

Many thanks - appreciated. I'll give George a call tomorrow and make sure the HJ will be OK, and find out just how much of it I need (I'll buy the lot, but best to check). Will give you a yell once I hear from George.

 try Billet Works, they make a complete collapsible bolt in for all earlies and you can keep the original steering box. you need to cut down the shaft and machine the end of it.

The pricing is about the same as Alien Retro. The aim with the FB is to make as much of it look as stock as possible. Kind of like if someone had back-yard engineered a car back in the 60's, before engineering certificates etc. I'll do what I have to for rego (collapsible column, two-speed wipers etc), but keep the rest as stock as I can. The billet column would probably look out of place, and I would not have the heart to paint it black.
