Title: Re: Wanted FC-FE survivor Post by: Errol62 on September 13, 2020, 09:43:06 AM My ute project I was lucky to get for $3k. Vern is right. At your price range and even at $20k, you may be just paying to inherit huge problems. My 1 owner FC will be available when I finish doing what I’m doing to it. Just jump in, drive and enjoy and put a car cover on it. Ric. Title: Re: Wanted FC-FE survivor Post by: rio on October 26, 2020, 07:03:59 PM Hi all, there might be a FC wagon for me the owner is in Victoria.

Front guards: headlight peaks, top rear corners, bottom rear corners, front bumper mounts. Bonnet: along the front. Cowl vent gutters. Windscreen and rear side glass flanges, under the rubber seals. Roof, along the gutters. Door bottoms, outside and in. Sills, all the way along, inside and out, particularly where the front subframe bolts on. No. 1 body crossmember, both sides, transmission tunnel hump. Floors, all four of them. B-pillars, at the bottom. Rear dog-legs, inside of rear wheel arches. Rear quarter panels, lower, inside and out. Fuel tank and surrounds, spare wheel well. Upper and lower tailgate. Rear beaver panel (in front of rear bumper). Box members near rear bumper brackets. Take a good look at any thread in "Cars Under Construction". The areas being rebuilt give a good indication of what rusts out. In summary: Everything. Rob Title: Re: Wanted FC-FE survivor Post by: rio on October 27, 2020, 05:44:16 AM So basically if it is not glass or rubber it will rust out :'(
Here's hoping it is a clean one with minimum rust. Title: Re: Wanted FC-FE survivor Post by: rio on November 11, 2020, 06:45:40 AM The FC wagon ended up another dead end as the owner changed his mind and decided to keep the car.

Cheers rio Title: Re: Wanted FC-FE survivor Post by: old-blu on November 11, 2020, 01:29:32 PM Rio. Now that you have been looking for some time, you may now realise that registered cars in the condition you require, are very difficult to find. To purchase a vehicle suitable for restoration, the spend will be in the order of $10K. There will be rust issues, engine rebuild, re chroming, paint...... [the list goes on....&on!]. I assume you have decided on your budget for this project. It is more economical to spend extra dollars on a fresh car, than restore a "project car". If you have another look @ my FE UTE for sale @ offers over $45K. you will see that all work has been carried out. That UTE cost me >$55K, The original purchase price was $8,500 [last Century]. It had been stored for 20 years. I realise that this price may be well over what you had in mind, however, I put it out there, that a rebuild & good restoration will cost you around $40K. This assumes that you are not performing the paint & panel yourself. If you are a fitter-welder, or panel beater & spray painter, or a very clever guy, then my best advice is to pay extra dollars rather than attempt to restore a rusty car or an unfinished project. All the best in your quest. Regards, Kevin.

Title: Re: Wanted FC-FE survivor Post by: FireKraka on January 16, 2021, 10:03:49 AM Hi Rio
As far as I know you shouldn't have a problem, the car is on full rego and has a QLD modification plate (the blue one on the fire wall) which means it went through some sort of engineering inspection, you would need to make sure you had all associated paperwork and would probably need to have it inspected in your state but if it has been done properly this should be just a formality. Neil Title: Re: Wanted FC-FE survivor Post by: snuff69 on January 16, 2021, 01:49:27 PM Cars with the QLD blue plate still need to be inspected by an engineer in NSW. Depends what the modification is I suppose, if it was something like fitting seatbelts you might be able to get a blue slip without engineering but if is an engine and gearbox change and the like it will need to be redone.

Not sure it is still at collectable classics, It belongs to Robin who is downsizing his collection. Cheers Stewy 8) Title: Re: Wanted FC-FE survivor Post by: mcl1959 on December 14, 2021, 10:38:32 PM Send me a personal message and we can discuss the car. I built it to the stage where it is now.

Title: Re: Wanted FC-FE survivor Post by: rio on January 05, 2022, 05:15:04 PM except you kept finding reasons not to buy one? It's hard when you are on a budget and rely on strangers to inspect a car interstate for you. Sydney must be the worst place for a decent priced car. Title: Re: Wanted FC-FE survivor Post by: ipg on January 05, 2022, 05:35:48 PM what was wrong with Ken's old car?
Title: Re: Wanted FC-FE survivor Post by: rio on January 05, 2022, 05:42:39 PM what was wrong with Ken's old car? Are you talking about the army car ? Title: Re: Wanted FC-FE survivor Post by: ipg on January 05, 2022, 05:57:15 PM how many of them are there going around?
Title: Re: Wanted FC-FE survivor Post by: rio on January 05, 2022, 06:39:58 PM how many of them are there going around? I don't now Ken personally, I presume he has restored more than 1 FC - FE. Title: Re: Wanted FC-FE survivor Post by: rio on January 20, 2022, 01:24:12 PM I have been looking on facebook, people showing their cars recently bought but have never seen advertised for sale.
It is like an inner circle you have to know certain people to get first shot at buying a car. Is this how it is or am i dreaming ? rio Title: Re: Wanted FC-FE survivor Post by: Errol62 on January 20, 2022, 07:09:30 PM FE van at Stone Hut SA you were looking at last time was back on Facebook recently. It is a project but good body with lots of spares.

Just want a survivor I can drive and fix things along the way. Thanks anyway. rio Title: Re: Wanted FC-FE survivor Post by: ipg on January 20, 2022, 09:23:09 PM join a car club, donate a large sum to the club, the exco might let you know of a barn find.
Title: Re: Wanted FC-FE survivor Post by: mcl1959 on January 21, 2022, 09:13:52 AM There is some truth in that statement, not the bit about donating a huge some of money lol, but a lot of cars do get offered to car clubs at good prices. Most cars I have owned were bought through being offered to the FE FC club of VIC.
Elderly people especially don’t want to advertise on line, but prefer to contact a car club. Call it a perk of volunteering to work at running a car club, or putting yourself in the right place at the right time. Title: Re: Wanted FC-FE survivor Post by: old-blu on January 21, 2022, 09:33:11 AM Could not agree more with that, All the cars I have restored over 35+ years have "found me", usually via the Club or by "word of mouth". If you are after an everyday driver, then pay the going price & get on with it. Kevin.
Title: Re: Wanted FC-FE survivor Post by: my8thholden on January 22, 2022, 09:37:16 AM I agree with you Kevin ..make a decision ,spend the bucks and get on with it ...I have a friend who was a real estate agent , he brought deals to himself , with wanted adds in the Land newspaper like " wanted , big chunk of dirt " amazing what came to him ... Vern .

Title: Re: Wanted FC-FE survivor Post by: rio on January 22, 2022, 10:42:21 PM Well I thought with all you fine fellows inside knowledge you would have one lined up for me.
I will keep searching something is bound to pop up. If you know of one for sale let me know. Cheers rio Title: Re: Wanted FC-FE survivor Post by: FireKraka on January 23, 2022, 11:10:05 AM I think you are looking for a unicorn mate, these cars are over 60 years old and you are not going to find one in perfect condition for the money you are talking, there's been plenty in your price range that you have been told about that would have made great daily drivers.
Title: Re: Wanted FC-FE survivor Post by: Patrick_R on January 25, 2022, 08:17:26 AM To answer your original post question.
No, you won’t find anything (that you think is good enough) with the money you have budgeted. Many cars have been offered to you (including mine which was a near perfect survivor and local) but you haven’t even been to look at what your money can buy. Even though mine was local to you, you still never looked at what some extra dollars could buy. I’ve even offered to inspect cars for you. As FireKraca correctly states, you are looking for something that doesn’t exist, but you keep wining on to everyone that it does and that it’s our responsibility to find something for you. Get real with the dollars, get out there, travel put in some hard yards and you will surely find something. Title: Re: Wanted FC-FE survivor Post by: old-blu on January 25, 2022, 11:26:25 AM I think it is fair to say that this thread has become exhausted. It is becoming frustrating for those who have been trying to assist. Why not just get out & find "the car of your dreams" & let us know if & when you find something. Finish this, before things become any more "heated", than @ present. Let it go! Kevin.
