What was the difference between 58 & 59 rear fins etc? Ric. Title: Re: FC 1959 rear fins and extensions Post by: DJ on July 03, 2020, 12:55:09 PM I recall asking the same question:
An earlier discussion .... http://forum.fefcholden.club/index.php?topic=24993.0 This page describing the differences between the 3 paint styles shows the tail-fin extended right up to front-most edge of "C" pillar from mid 1959. http://www.fefcholden.org.au/techinfo/fcpaintstyles.html Title: Re: FC 1959 rear fins and extensions Post by: mcl1959 on July 03, 2020, 03:25:57 PM The rear fins for the first two styles of FC paintwork are interchangeable, but the rear fins for the 3rd model are unique by having a groove cut into them to locate the stainless steel extension.
You can make a 3rd style fin out of an earlier fin by filing in the grooves. However using a 3rd style fin on an earlier style car leaves the end of the fin not touching the body and it looks odd. Rechromeable would be fine. Collects what are the condition of them? Cheers Are the extensions stainless or Diecast? Thanks Title: Re: FC 1959 rear fins and extensions Post by: Patrick_R on July 03, 2020, 11:27:20 PM Thanks for the explanation chaps.
Looks like my car is a late 58 build, 59 delivery. Title: Re: FC 1959 rear fins and extensions Post by: graham_fuller on July 08, 2020, 09:29:20 PM Hi guys,

The correct '59 Fins will have small slots on the underside to house the leading edge of the extensions. Otherwise expand the extension to slide over the fin. I secured the extensions using brass bolts & nuts. I filed the head to slide along the extensions. Cut off the threaded side of the guard inside the boot to suit & then seal with body putty, [ I used ormanoid putty]. Kevin.

Title: Re: FC 1959 rear fins and extensions Post by: mcl1959 on July 09, 2020, 01:23:18 PM The fins and the extensions are both right and left handed.
You have to be careful to get a LH and a RH fin and a LH and RH extension. Ken Title: Re: FC 1959 rear fins and extensions Post by: graham_fuller on July 09, 2020, 05:42:46 PM Thanks Ken.
