Title: fittings for selector lever shaft Post by: my8thholden on October 17, 2019, 07:57:59 AM Gents ..I am fitting transmission gear shift selector rods .I suspect a couple of components that came off the car are not correct...In the FE service manual I use on my FC ,page 210 ,FIG.7-19 ..exploded view ..It shows item 51 " washer-special flat "..and item 52 "washer-selector lever shaft spring" ..What is "special" about item 51 ? ,also dimensions pls..Is item 52 a "wave" washer ? If so size pls ? ..THX Vern ..

"Special" means it's made of Bakelite. And yes, I'm guessing that 52 is a wave washer. Item 51 usually stays on the car until the gearshift is disconnected for the first time, after which an Australia-wide mechanics' conspiracy dictated that it be thrown into the bin. And don't get me started on HD/R/K/T/G brake self-adjusters . . . What is it with mechanics who think they know more than design engineers & throw parts away that were designed to perform a perfectly valid function ? More often than not, it's the lack of understanding of their function in the first place.
