Title: STEERING COLUMN OPTIONS
Post by: Ken McLean on November 25, 2000, 01:00:00 PM
A little while back there was some discussion re steering columns for FE/C.  I have installed an EJ/H auto column onto the original FC steering box (straight forward operation). The Neutral safety switch is supplied with the EJ/H column(no problems here) I am running 186 Tri, so I took the lockout from a Torana and welded it in place of the EJ/H lockout (little bit of trial and error, but not too difficult) Also took the PRNDL from a Torana, cut the letters out, and stuck them into a HR housing which bolted straight onto the EJ/H column,  the PRNDL light was also OK in the setup.  Only problem is that the FE/C wheel will not fit the EJ/H column or anything later. I dont think it will even fit an FB/EK column without an ugly gap appearing.  Use a sports wheel to get the short column you desire.

Thanks Ken, that's exactly what I am after. My first message probably didn't read as I intended, but I actually needed a EH or later column so that I CAN fit a sports steering wheel. Apparently boss kits are only available for EH's and later models.  How much shorter is the EH Column than the FE Column?

Probably about 120 mm or so.    Ken
