Ladies and gents,

A little while back I made a run of 150-odd cylinder head gaskets to suit the Holden grey motor. The gaskets have a revised water flow path, and improve cooling on the grey. The background to the first run is here:

All 150-odd gaskets sold. Feedback from those who installed them has been positive - a noteable improvement in cooling. I've had quite a few request since then for people looking lay their hands on one of the new gaskets, and have passed on almost all the ones that I bought for my own use  ::).

I own the dies to make the gaskets, which AA Gaskets (the guys who make Permaseal gaskets) store and maintain for me (nice guys). I've tried to contact Rares to see if they would like to own the dies, but with Les now absent I haven't had any response. I no longer have my emails from the technical gentleman who worked with me on the gearboxes (Lance), and can't seem to extract contact details from Rares either.

I'm thinking about getting a second run of gaskets made. Same terms and conditions as above, and probably the same pricing. Same as last time, this is a love-job for me - I don't make a red cent.

Rough timing for the process:
a) I'll collect expressions of interest from these forum posts until the end of October. This should give the various early Holden clubs time to meet and discuss too. We need at least 50 nominations to make the second run work.
b) For those who express an interest, you get the month of November to pony up the funds to me. Last time round I only had two guys who didn't bother paying.
c) I'll place the order, and AA Gaskets will let us know the timing.
d) When the gaskets arrive, I'll parcel them up in plywood (like last time) and send them to you. Note that it is cheaper if you combine postage with a few mates, or as a Club.

Did A run to York today , about one hour east of Perth to the FE a good run after the work done on it plus the modified head gasket . On way you have go up Greenmount hill , very steep for about 10 kms . Ambient temp 20deg c. By the time we got to the top engine temp 71c&. Radiator top tank temp70c . Amazing . Before it would have been around 80/ 90 at the engine . If I could figure out how to send a photo on the forum I would or will . Cheers .

Last time round, the gaskets cost $83 for the 1st gasket (including postage), $55 for each gasket thereafter i.e. if you ordered one gasket, you owe me $83. If you ordered two gaskets, you owe me $138. If you ordered three gaskets, you owe me $193. If you ordered four gaskets, you owe me $248.

38 nominations so far from the various forums. I'll take ten myself (to replace the ones I gave to stragglers  ::)). Minimum order is 50, so the gasket run will definitely go ahead.

Pricing is likely to be similar to last time I'd imagine. Last time the gaskets cost $83 for the 1st gasket (including postage), $55 for each gasket thereafter i.e. if you ordered one gasket, you owe me $83. If you ordered two gaskets, you owe me $138. If you ordered three gaskets, you owe me $193. If you ordered four gaskets, you owe me $248.

Hi, I would like a head gasket as well please as I am just in the process of of striping down my fc motor for a rebuild. What is the time frame for them as I would like to have it up and running by Christmas and also what else is involved in it obviously you don't just wack on a gasket and that's it, do you have to enlarge the water jacket holes? .Cheers Greg M.

Yes, you need to drill (or die grind) out holes in the head. The gaskets come with a copy of the original NASCO instructions.

This run of gaskets might be ready by Christmas, but more likely early new year.

If you need the motor before Christmas, shoot me a PM and I'll find you one of the earlier batch.

Just to re confirm to members who haven’t as yet realised the benefits of the modified head gasket , I have had our FE since 1978 & it has always been a problem re overheating ,three trips over the nullabor to e/a nats did it for me . We had A problem with crank end float so I thought I’ll kill two birds with the one stone . & had the new gasket fitted when Harv organised the first run , what a difference , as I said prev I have two temp sensors , head & top rad tank , the two readings are now on avg 2 deg difference . Today in Perth wa , it was 32 deg ambient temp : the old girl sat on 72/ 73 c on a long run , never achieved before . More than happy , even the engine co .have asked for a few of the gaskets ,happy days 🍺🐌

Delivery from AA to me will be just before Christmas. If I get time, they may go into the post pre-Christmas. It is more likely they will go into the post end-January.

Costing as follows:
Gasket cost: $41.00 each.
Plywood and tape packaging: $4.00 (same price for one gasket, or many gaskets)
Postage: $20.00 (flat rate Australia wide to make this process simple)
Total: $65.00
So if you want one gasket, you owe me $65. If you want two gaskets, you owe me $106. Three gaskets $147.00, four gaskets $188.00 etc. Slightly cheaper than last time, as we have recouped the tooling costs. Happy for people to bundle their gaskets with other people to save postage. Equally happy for you to pick them up from Greystanes, western Sydney if that suits. Just like last time, I will not make a red cent out of this exercise, nor charge for my time.

Just like last time, these gaskets come with an instruction sheet (copy of the NASCO guidance), and a warning sheet (to prevent people putting them on upside down). The gaskets come with no warranty from me, and no warranty from AA Gaskets.

Over the weekend I will send out PMs to each of you, seeking payment by 7th December. Payment will be by PayPal please (it is readily traceable, and it sends me an email warning once you have paid). For those who do not have access to PayPal, give me a yell and we will sort something out.

Choose the MY MESSAGES button. This should take you to your inbox. Down the bottom of the list of messages there should be two labelled "Payment for improved cooling head gasket". Click on them to open.

I’ll keep the 10 spares, as I guarantee someone will want one later (or will want to increase their order). Two-thirds of the gaskets have been paid for (thanks guys), with one third to go. A quick update.

AA Gaskets have made the order, and they will ship to me next week. By the time I get home from work, I will have just enough time to get these into the post before Christmas (probably post 21st or 22nd December). Phil – I have not forgotten to hold off posting yours until late-January.

The order is for 100 gaskets, of which 94 are sold. I’ve got 30 parcels to send out. Happy to help anyone out if they want some of the last 6 gaskets that are unspoken for.

I have left fourteen gaskets, plus two in my personal stash (not for sale).

a) Five gaskets are owned by Dave, who is picking his up.
b) Two gaskets are owned by Phil, who I need to post to once he gets back from holidays.
c) Two gaskets are owned by Mathew, who I need to post them to now that I am home again.
d) Two gaskets are assigned to Black57 on the FE/FC forum but have yet to be paid for. If I do not receive payment before end-January, I will sell them to recoup my costs.

So all up I have nine gaskets owned by others, two gaskets not paid for, and three spares. I will sell the spares first up, first served based on the PMs I have received.

a) Mick from the FB/EK forum may like a gasket. I will get him to confirm, and if so they I will send it to him.
e) Ace from the FE/FC forum would like four gaskets. I can give ACE two gaskets, or three if Mick does not want his. I will let you know once I hear from Mick.
f) FX1975 from the FE/FC forum would like a gasket. You are first in line to receive one of Black57’s gaskets if he does not pay by the end of January.
g) KFV888 from the FE/FC forum would like 1-2 gaskets. You are second in line to receive one of Black57’s gaskets if he does not pay by the end of January.

I finished up the late payers, and the guys on the waiting list last week. Sadly, I only have two gaskets left in my personal stash. My plan is to use these on one of my own vehicles, unless someone has a disaster and needs one in a rip-tear-bust hurry (I've had over 250 gaskets made so far, and somehow always seem to pass along the ones destined for my own vehicles).

There still seems to be quite a lot of interest in the gaskets, so I'll start another round of nominations for a third production run in a separate forum thread. Please add your name to the list.
