Hey Ekute, think I spoke to you on FB the other day. No offence taken mate. Sorry it happened how it did. Was all without my knowledge obviously.

I'll talk to you after going over the car in more detail. At this point I'm planning on a resto, but always nice to have options.

As nice as the patina is, I was planning original colors. Probably an ideal car for rat rod styling though.

Welcome to the forum Lowlife very cool wagon mate looks in pretty good shape I'm looking forward to seeing more photos as you go.
What's the plan, fully Reston or slightly mod or full out.
Regards
FireKraka

Thanks FireKraka.
This is my first FC, I've rebuilt two EHs, one original and one modified, encountered different challenges going in each direction.
This wagon is pretty original so I do feel it would be pretty sacrilegious to change that. Knowing that certainly doesn't stop those niggling little thoughts like "that 1UZFE would like nice sitting in there".

but realistically, it will be a standard resto, I'll do the rust repair and paint in original colors, keeping the old grey, and I'll try find a decent interior at a swap meet.

If that is a pair of FX front over riders........
There is a nice sedan around I know that needs a pair(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180113/9f89f5a61458ff455cb8ae9017d97982.jpg)

Pretty sure there was a FX pair and a FC pair in there. Photo seems to be missing one though. I'll have to check for it when I get home.

Love the green interior lowlife. It has always intrigued me that these cars came out with plastic seat base trims when they went to metal for the FBs. The seats are very similar. I don’t know but I imagine the plastic would be pretty scarce these days. I’m not suggesting you consider sullying your lovely FC with grubby old FB EK stuff of course.

The plastic FC style trims are available from Rare Spares but they are expensive. The metal seat trims can be fitted but they finish a little lower up the seat back. If you decide to use metal seat trims it's a good idea to give your upholsterer a set before the seat covers are made. If you go this way I have a pair of metal sides complete with good SS moulds. I'm after a pair of FC moulds .......

I was hoping my seat trims were going to be salvageable. The passenger side is good, just needs a clean up. Drivers side is split right through both pieces.

Think this floor might be taking up my attention for a while before I address the seats though.

Hey Lowlife,

Have you considered "plastic welding" on the seat trims?  I don't know if it'll work on these trims but not much to lose by trying.  It's how they repair the plastic bumpers and other bits on newer cars these days. Try "Google" or "Youtube", there's heaps of info. about it. Once the repair's done, you sand it back, use a plastic primer and paint away.

Cheers,

John

Hi John, I've thought about it, don't know how viable it is, will have to research it a bit more before I dump money on rares replacements.

Here are some of the different types of Stack badges I have found over the years that Stacks were operating

Like a lot of older Holden stuff these and I suspect other badges are being reproduced and some are hard to pick

I was the same when I cut mine,  thinking where to cut and what to leave..  I tried to picture the sand blaster getting access to all the inners. I think that's the best idea.  I also thought it would be a little more ridged when travelling the more you leave on there...     But when it comes down to it.. the new sill requires you to remove back to spot welds top and bottom...

I would also recommend taking as much of that black seam sealer off as you can. Does not have to be perfect, just the blast struggles to move the big lumps. Especially in the rear quarters behind the rear wheels. As my blaster did not take that back to the metal  and I have found rust does grow under it... :-\ :-\

Thanks cam. Same train of thought here, I know I'll need to cut more off later but thought it'd be best wait til after the blasting.

I would cut as close as you’re comfortable to the inner sill, leaving the turned up lip on top and flat spot welded strip on the bottom. Then grind out the spots on the bottom and peel off. Cut off the top lip horizontally and grind out the spots again on top. You may want to avoid cutting through the turned up edge of the floor panel when you do this, depending on what is left of it and whether it is welded to the outer sill lip. Then  you can assess the inner and clean up or replace. Take care around the A, B and C pillar bottoms of course which you are best to attack cautiously bit by bit with the grinder. Just my 2c worth.

Look like rear door check strap limit stop brackets never seen them broken like that before

Sorry they are the rear door stop brackets. Don't know the correct term, I'll weld them if need be, but an unbroken pair would be all the better.

Rob I'd very gratefully grab them from you. If I can work out how to message you using tapatalk I'll do so and we can sort out a price.
