Try Antique Tyres, they have some expensive ones $400+ each and apparently some budget ones too. Not sure about 13" fittings but they definately have 14". www.antiquetyres.com.au Ph: (03) 9458 4433 If you like I can bring along their catalog when I collect the rims next week. Title: Re: White Wall Tyres Post by: gp on August 14, 2003, 07:35:34 PM G'day Gents,
Yes I can recommend Antique Tyre Supplies (Heidelberg Vic from memory). I bought a set of Cooper whitewalls there that are on my FC. Not a bad tyre and I think they were about $130ea about 3 years ago. They are also very pleasant people to deal with. Cheers, Graham. Title: Re: White Wall Tyres Post by: RET on August 14, 2003, 09:08:25 PM I also bought a set of Porta-Walls from Antique Tyres just recently. Don't the tyre-fitting service guys back away when you turn up with a packet of those!
$130/set of 4. And they look great on my cross-plies. cheers RET Title: Re: White Wall Tyres Post by: Rabbit on August 15, 2003, 12:29:05 AM Thanks Guys for the info , sounds good.
Title: Re: White Wall Tyres Post by: graham_fuller on August 15, 2003, 12:35:13 AM As Ret said they look great.Ret you need to watch how you take your photos as your car almost looks like that grey undercoat colour.
Cheers, Graham ;D Title: Re: White Wall Tyres Post by: Rabbit on August 15, 2003, 01:07:55 AM I thought it was the Magna undercoat colour.
Only kidding. Title: Re: White Wall Tyres Post by: ekmad on August 15, 2003, 02:09:35 AM There were machines around that would spin your wheel around ( while still on the car ) and smooth out a narrow sidewall strip and then apply paint, either white or red, to give a coloured sidewall. A lot of car yards had them to "snazz up" their cars. Are they still around??

Title: Re: White Wall Tyres Post by: Wayne on August 15, 2003, 04:11:26 AM Ret
Your car looked just as good as mine in that top looking colour (grey) no not the primer or undercoate.Should keep it that colour. WAYNE Title: Re: White Wall Tyres Post by: RET on August 15, 2003, 05:01:37 AM I am keeping it that colour. It's quite obviously blue. So you agree your car would look better blue, then?
Sorry Rabbit, your thread on White Walls seems to have been hijacked by the Grey Army... RET Title: Re: White Wall Tyres Post by: Rabbit on August 15, 2003, 05:32:55 AM That's Cool I'm going to paint my car white and put Grey walls on it.
Title: Re: White Wall Tyres Post by: Wayne on August 15, 2003, 06:35:35 AM RET
No the grey still looks good I would consider a washed out blue as my second choice. Any way what is wrong with a nice grey car it has appeal. WAYNE Title: Re: White Wall Tyres Post by: Rabbit on August 15, 2003, 06:52:10 AM Any colour is Cool on these cars ;D

This is one arguement no one will win, once grey (Primer colour) is mentioned a thread is doomed to be overrun by the everlasting arguement "IS Grey a True Colour" John M PS Where the photos of the infamous FC Title: Re: White Wall Tyres Post by: Rabbit on August 16, 2003, 12:41:16 AM Cool now I get it.
This FC that I'm talking about is not ready for sale as yet. Heard about it from a bloke at work. He has seen it and reckons it's pretty damm good. I now have the address of where it is, I will be having a look soon. Post pics. when I get , hopefully soon. This bloke at work has said that the dude that owns this car want's to sell it to me . Cool. Title: Re: White Wall Tyres Post by: Tailshaft_Tim on August 16, 2003, 04:54:27 AM Try being colour-blind... at my first FE-FC Nats (back in '95) I just assumed that Holden painted all of their cars two-tone grey :) Go GREEN - ugh no, not environmental, just two-tone :) Good luck with the white walls Rabbit Title: Re: White Wall Tyres Post by: FEHOLDEN on August 16, 2003, 07:29:24 AM gidday all

Poor Rabbit, he only wanted some advice about whitewalls and had his thread hijacked by the Osama Bin Primer brigade. Bloody black and white terrorists! Cheers, Craig. Title: Re: White Wall Tyres Post by: Cat on August 18, 2003, 12:10:17 AM And I guess that makes three of us......Poo roolz ;D

Back on the subject of white walls (sorry to the grey/black/white and technicolor brigades ;D), the porta walls that RET mentioned are also available from John's Rod and Custom in Melbourne. The Antique Tyre Porta Walls are Atlas brand (from England) and the JR & C are made locally. I went for the JR & C ones as they are supposedly better??? When using Porta Walls you need to be careful of damage to the sidewall of the tyre as these can sometimes be rubbed badly by the Porta Wall. Also, if you use brand new tyres, the dye in the tyre can stain the porta wall - they also squeak when you drive but this is what the radio is for ;D ;D ;D EK Mad, there is a bloke in Sydney who does have the machine that you talk about, I got his number from Rare Spares when I called them about porta walls a few months ago. I spoke to him and he said that he does a lot of rods and Harleys. From memory he was about the same price as porta walls. Sorry, but I don't have his number anymore. I ended up going for the porta walls as you could get a wider strip of white as apposed to painting them on but thats only a personal thing. Cheers - Chuck Title: Re: White Wall Tyres Post by: RET on August 19, 2003, 10:43:58 PM It's my understanding that the possibility of PortaWalls damaging the tyre side-wall is more of an issue when running them on radials than cross-ply tyres. If anyone knows more about that I'd be interested to know.
I looked into the grooved/painted tyre thing too, but I couldn't see the value in it when it costs as much per tyre as the PortaWall anyway. cheers RET Title: Re: White Wall Tyres Post by: Hotlips on August 20, 2003, 03:15:39 AM :DYears ago I had the "groove cut-out and then paint" job done on my EFFEE. Yes it looked good but didn't last. I later found out it was ILLEGAL to cut any part of the side wall off of a tyre. YIKES!?@*&^# :o :o. Just as well they didn't last.
Has anyone heard of white walls that successfully go onto radial tyres??? Cheers HOTLIPS. ;) ;) ;) Title: Re: White Wall Tyres Post by: RET on August 20, 2003, 05:22:51 AM I suspect that the guys who do the painted-on white-walls no longer cut into the sidewall first. But if you think about the amount of flexing that the tyres do, it's little wonder that the paint cracks and peels.
You can use Porta-Walls with radials, as long as they're not real low-profile jobs. I think you have to be a bit more diligent about keeping the rubber-grease up to them, that's all. Otherwise they will rub the sidewall and both will wear. Give Antique Tyres a call and ask them what they recommend. Their number is 03 9458 4433. cheers RET Title: Re: White Wall Tyres Post by: fastjbav6 on August 20, 2003, 01:13:27 PM I had Atlas white walls fitted to radial tyres, the tyre stained the white wall and the white wall put a groove in the side of the tyre. I latter was told by a tyre dealer that there are 2 different types of white walls, one for radials and one for cross plys.
