Title: 2 post hoist and jacking points on a FE ute
Post by: smiffy60 on January 14, 2017, 10:23:46 AM
Hi All
Proud new owner of FE ute and I have 2 post hoist and want to lift but finding limited spot on the front any tips?
I have aEK sedan that has a strengthen kit so have had no issues.
When to lift on the brace under foot area but it moved and has put the wind up me.
So checking out the new toy old school style currently
Thanks in advance
Smiffy

Smiffy, the chassis member under the front floor is the usual place to lift under. But it MUST be sound. This is a very common area for rust, so sounds like you may need replacement sections welded in.
I have done many of these on hoists and not on hoists. You can do it on a hoist by moving the front leg of the hoist to directly under the sill, either at the chassis member or just back. Don't go forward of the chassis member as this spot also is prone to rust and it may crumple slightly as well.
The rear leg goes under the chassis just in front of the spring mount.

Hi Ken
This car is soild had a full rebuild by a FE FC Enthusiast 10 or mor years ago.
Just the angle of the brace worrys me and didn't seem stable so I use large rubber blocks that I usually use but they moved so I did the check over old school style
Just thought outhers would have had this issue
I am being super protective of these new accusation as well!

Never had an issue with an FC on a hoist. I have never used blocks on top of the feet though. Usually the pad screws up far enough to sit comfortably on the chassis member.

I use the 4x4 spacers on the front arms and go under the crossmember that run thru to the gearbox support.

and on the rear i go to the front spring hanger no spacer.

Wow that's some nice engineering work there.
I have purchased the taller pads for the host and will use that brace just wanted to confirm that was the right place even though mine is stock underneath.
Will give it a go and can always beef up that brace if needed.
Maybe one day the strengthening kit will happen
Thanks for the reply's Folks
