Post by: Fraze on September 02, 2016, 07:38:53 AM
I am going to have to replace the front windscreen in my FC soon and would appreciate word from someone who has been there re where to buy a new screen, and who to fit it. I am in Melbourne SE suburbs. Thanks, Fraze

Not that hard to fit with s newish rubber fraze. I dare say there are guides on here or google or YouTube. Try and get the GMH window sealant. I think it was use up to HG. Fit the rubber and trim to window and secure with a few bits of masking tape. Run a piece of curtain cord in the outer groove. Plenty of sealant in first. Both grooves. Drop the bottom over the lip from outside. With someone holding the screen outside pull the cord ends bringing the seal over the lip. Careful with the head lining. Stick down with contact if loose prior to above. Pressure and mild thumping with back of hand or rubber mallet on the outside during and after this process will bed the thing in. Have a go.

Don't try this with a laminated screen. Use the pros if you want one of them.

Half decent used screens are not that hard to get. Scratch marks can be buffed out. Google it!

Hi Fraze, unless you are confident about doing it yourself, I wouldn't try it. If you need a new screen rubber, then it is a lot harder especially if you fit a laminated screen. This is what I've been doing for a living for 40 years, I would suggest you contact the National Windscreen Group (NWG Pty Ltd) they will put you in contact with a local fitter in your area. Pity you live down south other wise I would do it for you.
Regards, Jim

Agree 100% with Jim. National Windscreens fitted my new laminated screen and rubber and chrome trim and did a great job.  No leaks at all.

Make sure you insist on re-fitting the stainless trim.
