Title: Complete front crossmember with all steering linkages, drums etc attached. Post by: roachy on August 01, 2016, 04:13:22 PM Hi everyone I have an excellent fe/FC front crossmember with everything attached steering linkages , drums etc it has been painted believe powder coated looks a great complete unit to have for any front end parts that maybe needed down the track am based in Sydney Cronulla 2230.
Looking at $300 as am sure is a complete assembly that could be bolted straight up. Hoping there is some local Sydney members willing to come out and check out the beach and my front end assembly at the same time. This is a great original spare front end assembly to put away for the future. Thanks for interest. Can you please clarify for me Might help other members too as I am unsure Are you saying it has been modified ? And is a FE front end ? Sorry I just want to understand better. Very much appreciated your knowledge if you can pickup differences and info from photos I assumed FE / FC front ends the same Roachy thanks again for your time Title: Re: Complete front crossmember with all steering linkages, drums etc attached. Post by: FCRB26 on August 25, 2016, 02:07:16 PM Might be the pic but those drums look wide compared to my FE look like FB EK ones ???
Title: Re: Complete front crossmember with all steering linkages, drums etc attached. Post by: hsv-001 on August 26, 2016, 10:18:14 PM Ok , what I was hinting to is that FE crossmembers drop deeper in the centre therefore the cross section of the crossmember is less and the outrigger drops lower to meet and is not as deep .If it is FE then the spindles and wheel bearings will be smaller and therefore I would consider what Pete says about the brakes . The FE spindles were often used on FX-FJ conversions and replaced with the later FC - EH stubs as reconditioned stubs were often exchanged and wider EH brakes common . I would have to look at it more closely . This is one of the reasons I struggle with the judging of old Holdens as original or modified . Lots of mods. were common very early on and dealerships offered options on chrome and badging to clinch a sale . Cheers Haydn

If it is an FB EK crossmember it will most likely have the FB EK shockers which have a T bottom like later models. FE FC are different. This is easy to check. FE FC crossmembers are all the same (except for some subtle strengthening to the area where the lower wishbones attach which was done during FE) Part number 7425215 FB EK cross members are not as deep in the centre. Part number 7425185 The bearings were changed in January 1958 So most FE have small bearings (the same as FJ) except for those made after Jan 58. To check, the diameter of the outer bearing land on the stub axle in early FE is 0.6875 inch (15.5mm) whilst late FE and FC have diameter 0.75 inch (16.9mm) There are various other ways to check such as reading the bearing part numbers, but one I use which does not involve taking the hub off is to locate the part number on the rim of the hub. The early hub starts with 740 and the later hub starts with 741. Sorry can't remember the last of the part numbers. :-\ Maybe someone can add these.
